Gaetano URSO

1935 - 2022

URSO, D.O., Gaetano "Guy" passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at the age of 86. A life-long Tampa native, Gaetano was born on May 24, 1935 to Anthony and Letizia Urso. He was an avid student and graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, received his undergraduate degree from Emory University, his medical degree from College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in 1965, and was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Being a doctor in Family Medicine was Gaetano's true passion where he dedicated 55 years to his patients with unbelievable kindness and attentive care. Dr Urso proudly served as Jefferson High School team physician for over 30 years, was a member of many professional associations, voted 2007 Physician of the Year by HCOMS, and a member of the Krewe of the Knights of Sant' Yago (1979 -80s). His hobbies included reading, photography, painting, building model rockets and airplanes, and he enjoyed his yearly vacation time at the beach with family and friends. Gaetano is predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Hazel Janette; his grandson, Jesse Lloyd; his brothers, Frank and James; and his parents, Anthony and Letizia. He is survived by his four children, Lisa, Antoinette (Donny), Michael, and Stephanie (John); his six grandchildren, Vanessa, Alissa, Alex, Frankie, Anthony, and Juliana; his seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dr Gaetano Urso was a man of few words, a sweet gentle soul who big-heartedly impressed many lives in the Tampa Bay area. He will be honored by family members and close friends in a private "Celebration of Life" gathering at a later date.
