Gary SILVERS

SILVERS, Gary age 94, of Largo Florida passed away on July 30, 2023. Born on March 6, 1929 in Berlin Germany, Gary was a holocaust survivor who along with his parents, Lothar and Hertha Silvers survived WWII as refugees in the Jewish Ghetto of Shanghai China. After the war Gary immigrated to the US where he settled in Indianapolis IN, joining the Indiana National Guard and attending Indiana University where he earned a degree in Accounting and Finance. With a Master's Degree in Hospital Administration from Washington University, Gary went on to a long and successful career in healthcare as a controller, hospital administrator, and consultant before ending his career as Director of the Health Council of West Florida. Gary was an avid world traveler and enjoyed speaking to civic groups on his experiences as a refugee and the importance of educating the next generation on the perils of taking the benefits of a free and democratic country for granted. For many years Gary was also a regular at the Walsingham dog park where he made many friends both human and canine. Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Silvers; son, Eric Silvers and his wife Caroline Silvers; and grandchildren, Garrett Silvers and Trent Silvers; son, Rodger Silvers and wife Carmen; and daughter, Christina Melissa Silvers. Gary is also survived by his former wife, Christel Silvers. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Florida Holocaust Museum.
