Gloria PIPKIN Obituary
a Teacher, a 1st Amendment advocate for the rights of children to read and write, a friend of so many people, a housewife who loved her husband dearly and an Exceptional Speaker died October 23, 2018 at Heritage Nursing Home in Tallahassee, Florida. First it was Alzheimer's that robbed her of her memory. Then cancerous brain tumors that robbed her of speech. Along came Hurricane Michael and she had to be evacuated to Tallahassee nursing home after Sea Breeze Nursing Home was left inoperable. She is survived by her husband of fifty two years, Kenneth; and her son, Philip Warren Pipkin; her granddaughter, Brielle Ann Pipkin; her sister, Donna Mims; and her brother, Dwight Edward Treadwell. Numerous friends and family members, including Janis Williamson, who made sure that Gloria was well taken care of at the nursing home. She leaves a legacy of helping others who shared her belief that everyone should be treated as equals. We all loved and respected Gloria for what she did with her time here on earth. Godspeed, Dear Gloria. A celebration of Gloria will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, October 30, 2018, in the Peel Funeral Home Chapel in Bonifay, Florida.

I am crying as I read of Gloria´s
Passing. I left and mostly stayed away from PC for about 35 years so we did not see each other but managed to keep in touch. She gave my children such great material to read. She was a fierce and brave warrior against ignorance and hate. She withstood many trials defending issues influencing kids. I feel honored to have known her. I grieved her passing. I still do. Rest In Peace, Gloria and know you did your job here on earth well!!!

Gloria was my Hero. It was a privilege to know her. She tirelessly and bravely held to her beliefs in spite of challenges of those who would silence her. All this for the love of literature and most of all her beloved students. I am so sad I did not get to see her in the last decades when I lived far away.

I am deeply saddened to know of Mrs. Pipkin's passing. She was my eighth-grade teacher at Mowat during the 80's heyday of that wonderful program there.
My message is late and may only be a blip in the digital world, but I still want to say that she was both a wonderful teacher and human being. I've always considered myself lucky to have been her student, even to this day, and I wish I would have let her know this after I had reached adulthood.
She was special and she made a difference.

My sincere condolences to the family of Ms. Pipkin. She was one of the most effective educators I encountered in my public school education and she was always willing to take the time to explain her lessons so that we could understand the material being covered.

Gloria will always remain in the hearts of those who knew her and loved her. Her influence and advocacy extended beyond the confines of Bay County and Florida...her passionate voice transcended physical, racial and political constraints to declare the inherent right of children and students and adults to read and discern and learn truth for themselves. I was privileged to spend time with Gloria as a friend and as a healthcare advocate. Her beauty of heart and character remained very much central in her life to the end. To her Pipkin and Treadwell families, my heart shares your grief and sorrow...you are in my prayers. Love to each of you.
