Harry Jassman Obituary

JASSMANN, Harry Paul 89, died, April 22, 2010 in Pierre, SD. A Memorial Service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, Clearwater, at 2 pm, Friday, May 28, 2010. Interment will take place at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at 10 am on Saturday, May 29, 2010 with family and close friends in attendance. Harry was born Feb. 11, 1921, to Emil and Emma (Serr) Jassmann in a farmhouse near Delmont, SD. Harry attended a one-room country school until the third grade when the family moved to Mitchell in 1929. The family which consisted of 9 children settled in Pierre in 1933. Harry's brothers were Don, Lee, Art, Cal, and Frank. Harry's sisters were Lorena, Viola, and Esther aka "Tiny". Harry fought in the Asian theater of WWII and returned to the USA in 1944. He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and received an honorable discharge with a rank of Captain in June of 1958. Harry had a great passion for the outdoors and enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing. Clearwater was the perfect environment for these year-round activities. Harry is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; three sons, Jeff Lewis, Clearwater, daughter-in-law Kim, granddaughter Sara & grand- son Adam; Jim Lewis, Pinellas Park, daughter-in-law Pam, granddaughters Ashley and Shelby, and John Jassmann, Duluth, GA, daughter-in-law Donna, grandson Kyle and granddaughter Chaney. He is also survived by three siblings, Lee Jassmann, 97, and Vi Strutz, 95, both from Pierre and Cal Jassmann, 87, from Boulder, CO. He was preceded in death by his son, Bob Jassmann; and five siblings, Don, Art, Frank, Lorena, & Esther.
