My mother talked about Aunt Helen a lot. She said many times that, growing up, Aunt Helen was like a mother to her. Granny had so many younguns, without the modern conveniences we take for granted to ease her workload---I'm sure she was glad to have a helpful loving daughter step in to care for her little sister.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
I remember Helen coming and visiting Grandma Dixon's with Aunt Odessa and Uncle Dewey.
I am staying in touch with the family through Sherry.
God Bless.

I remember Aunt Helen from when I was a lil young'un in Tampa. My mom took me with her to visit several times---she would take me places and leave Steve and Sue at home b/c she knew I would sit quietly and let her and Helen talk in peace. She had Little Golden Books and paperdolls of actresses from the 40s that she would let me play with. She had a doll in a Sequoia dress---which I was not allowed to touch, only look at. I also remember eating lunch at her house one day---I helped myself to some fried chicken, even though the pieces were a funny shape. I took a bite and asked if it was fried chicken. She assurd me that it was so I ate it. In retrospect, I believe that chicken was actually squirrel. ;o> I loved the way she wore her hair, like a movie star. She also hummed all the time....
