WEST, Helga "Omi"

77, of Harwich, MA and Indian Rocks Beach, FL passed away peacefully January 3, 2019. Anyone who knew Helga knew her spitfire personality. She was the epitome of class, fashion, friendship, and sophistication. Helga was predeceased by her beloved husband of over 40 years, Joseph West and daughter, Deborah Platthy. Helga was born in Wetzlar, Germany and came to the United States in 1960 after meeting her husband. She then purchased the Coachman Motor Inn of Harwich Port, MA, which she meticulously ran for over 40 years. She spent winters with her husband, Joe, here in Florida where they enjoyed the wonderful company of their large social group, especially the lovely nights out at the Wine Cellar. She will be lovingly missed by her son, Michael West and daughter-in-law, Alena; her grandchildren, Heidi and Jesse Kellington, Courtney West, and Matthew and Courtney Hemenway. She is also survived by her four great-grandchildren, Anthony, Angelina, Faith, and Jackson. Helga additionally leaves behind many wonderful friends as well as her beloved German shepherds, Liesel and Toro. A Celebration of her Life will be held Sunday, February 10, 1-4 pm, at her home on Indian Rocks Beach.
