James SWICKEY Obituary

SWICKEY, Lt. Cmdr. James

N. USN (Ret.) passed away peacefully Jan. 14, 2018 at the age of 87 in Tampa, FL. James was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Bertha. He is survived by son, Matthew and his wife, Dinah of Tampa, FL; granddaughter, Page Painter Gritte, her husband David and daughter Caroline of Virginia Beach, VA. James was a 25 year veteran of the U.S. Navy enlisting at 17. He served on numerous submarine and surface vessels as navigator and executive officer in addition to tours at the Pentagon and The Naval Academy where he was Director of Small Craft. After retiring from the Navy, he worked 20 years in construction sales as a branch manager for Dayton Bolt & Nut, Co. James was a volunteer at the pharmacy on MacDill AFB, Tampa in his retirement as well as maintaining memberships in a number of Masonic bodies as a 33rd degree Mason. Services will be held Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, 7 pm, St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 13312 Cain Rd., Tampa, FL 33625, Fr. Peter Strimer, celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Wreaths Across America, P.O. Box 9514, Virginia Beach, VA 23451.
