Joel BEATTY Obituary
53, of LaGrange, GA passed away Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015 in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Beatty was born Sept. 7, 1961 in St. Petersburg and was a graduate of Shorecrest Preparatory School, SMU and Emory University Medical School. He was a neurologist in private practice initially at Suncoast Medical Clinic in St. Petersburg and later at Neurology Center of West Georgia in LaGrange, GA. Dr. Beatty was a kind and compassionate physician, husband, father, son, brother, and friend and will be missed by so many. Per his wishes, there will be no memorial service. Survivors include his wife, Theresa Beatty; three sons, Justin Beatty, Jonathan Beatty, and Joshua Beatty; mother, Beatrice Beatty; father, John Beatty; two brothers, Steven (Francesca) Beatty and Edward Beatty; niece, Brooke Beatty; nephew, Alex Beatty. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made to National Alliance for the Mentally Ill-NAMI Troup County, P.O. Box 902, LaGrange, GA 30241 or Twin Cedars Youth and Family Services, P.O. Box 1526, LaGrange, GA 30241 in memory of Joel A. Beatty, MD). I am shocked & saddened to hear of Dr. Beatty's passing. My son was a patient, dealing with migraines that just wouldn't end. Dr. Beatty was responsible for putting us on the right path to help our son. I meant to let Dr. Beatty know how grateful I was, but sadly today, I learned that I missed that opportunity. I loved Dr. Beatty, his deep caring & his quirky humor. I am so sorry for the unimaginable loss to his family, friends & patients. Our deepest condolences to all.

My sympathies to Joel's wife family, colleagues, friends and patients. Joel was one of our residents at Emory when I was on faculty. I only heard the news through an email from an Atlanta friend yesterday. Joel was highly regarded as one of the most able members of the residency and he was probably the most good-natured. I moved to Ireland in 1995, nearly half a professional lifetime ago. Surely the greatest privilege of being faculty in postgraduate medicine is the opportunity to develop young people such as Dr Joel Beatty, who went on to greatness. My heart hurts for Mrs. Beatty and the 3 sons. I've been a patient of Dr. Beatty's for about 3 years. From the first day I met him, I knew he really cared. Finally, I was about to surprise him on our next visit with the news that the medication he prescribed for me was working after trying different ones for 24 yrs. He struggled with me through this journey. I only found out yesterday that he had passed. I will not stop praying for all of you. The news broke my heart for his family. May the Lord comfort you and give you strength to get through this time. He will be greatly missed by me, and I'm sure all of his patients.

To the Family, Friends, and Associates of Dr. Beatty,
I received the most upsetting and horrifying news today , around the 3:00 pm hour; when one of Dr. Beatty's assistants called me to reschedule my September 11, 2015 appt.
I questioned her why the appointment was being changed. I thought to myself maybe, Dr. Beatty had a convention to attend, during that time. Instead I found out some "heartbreaking" news.
I screamed to the top of my lungs. Shocked I was! This just couldn't be true. No way! No way! This is second Neurologist I have lost, as a Doctor. It was so shocking, when Dr. Warrem Gould lost his life in a boating accident. He was a great Doctor too!
I've been a patient of Dr. Beatty for 13 to 14 yrs. He has been a great encourager and inspirational person. If I ever felt down about anything, even when I lost my eldest daughter, Antonica, he assured me that all things happen for a reason and that I would overcome the tragedy.
I, truely, thank him for all. Time must be given for everyone that was in his life!! Just now, it will be hard for me to visit the Neurology Center and he don't come out and say, "Ms Sherman, Hi or Good Morning!! Come on back."
As the old Spiritual Songs says, "He's an on - time God," Dr. Beatty was an on - time Doctor. He was very prompt! That I and others, I'm sure appreciated to the upmost. His staff must be going crazy!! Dr. Beatty was a blessing to many and his absence will be missed!
Even though, Dr. Beatty will be, greatly, missed by all. Mrs. Beatty and sons don't ever think no one can replace your husband and dad. I know you four are just over blown with this matter!! Your grieving process will be a timing of its own!! No matter how long it takes is a decision between you and the master. May God grant you all the strength you need, during and after this time!
I'm a patient that respected him, as he did all others. He was a wonder, kind, loving, nice, and warm person to all.
No matter what your problems were, he had a kind word to quote to let you know that you weren't in this world alone and just keep looking up!! And gave meds to give you comfort, so that you could relax. He really cared for his patients. That's what matters!
May God, continuously, sprinkle the loving memories of Dr. Beatty, throughout each of your lives. And as I tell others, "Cry as much as you have to. The tears of love will just keep the memories water, so that they will live forever and ever!"

My Mom and Dad called me this morning with the news of Joel's passing. It has been,what seems like a lifetime ago since Shorecrest days. I didn't know Joel as a doctor, but as a heck of a soccer player. We shared daily bus time on the long ride to "The South Side". He was such a nice guy as a kid and a young man.

Our family has known the Beatty family for quite sometime. I am saddened to have to connect in this way. Many great memories were made when we were younger and remained till this day. I was so very lost to hear of Dr. Beatty's passing. He was a great physician and teacher. I worked with him at WGMC for 5 years. He was always willing to answer all my questions and was very friendly and accepting of the "new" nurse. I know many of my friends on 6 South were very close to him. Joel was a friend to all that he met. He was a member of our soccer supporters group (Ralph's Mob) for the Tampa Bay Rowdies in St Petersburg Florida. We all enjoyed the time he spent with us and he will be missed by all of us that knew him. RIP, Joel.

I am so sorry to hear about Joel's passing. I still remember fondly that RV trip our families shared to Fort Wilderness at Christmas vacation. Many wonderful childhood memories. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Beatty family.

This is a brilliant and wonderful man. He has been a loyal and dear friend to many people. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing him is a lucky person. I consider it an honor to have had him as a friend. This is a tremendous loss. He will be so missed, and always remembered.
