John Mead Obituary

Mead, John Logan Jr.

of St. Petersburg FL and Franklin NC passed away January 22, 2025. He is survived by his wife, Sherill Boldt; his children, Elisabeth Kennedy (John), John P. Mead, D.V.M. (Bethany); his grandchildren, Emma and Beatrice, and is predeceased by Patricia Mead.

John was the son of accomplished aircraft aviator John Logan Mead, Sr., and an aspiring fashion graduate of New York's Columbia University, Anna Hamilton Mead. In 1947, the Meads purchased the Ermee Cruiser Plaza located on North Redington Beach, across from the historic beachside Tides Hotel and Bath Club. With John's help, they operated the iconic resort wear shops, patronized by celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, for fifty years.

After graduation from Florida Southern College, John's early love of flying led him to join the Navy, where he served on board the USS Bonhomme Richard Aircraft Carrier. He flew a carrier based Grumman anti-submarine radar equipped plane, and his tour of duty took him to exotic places in the Orient and Sea of Japan. At the completion of his military service, he returned home to manage, and ultimately own, his family's flourishing resort wear stores.

John was an exceptionally cool character who greeted every day with energy, a beautiful smile, sparkling eyes, and a song in his heart. He was a stylish gentleman, gifted musician, animal lover, avid reader, articulate storyteller, and a collector and restorer of vintage British sports cars. John was the artistic curator of his amazing life!

We will miss John's comforting voice, his ready laughter, and his smiling face. We wish him safe passage with unlimited visibility (CAVU) on his final flight.

Lisa, I am very sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved father, John. I remember him as a charismatic man with great spirit who loved life, his family and animals and mother nature. I am also sorry to learn of your mother's passing some years ago. I fondly remember your grandmother Esta and her husband Tom. My heart goes out to you and your brother and the rest of your family. Sad to say, we are at the age when we lose so many of our family and friends. Take care during this difficult time, Kevin.
