When John retired from Volkswagen, the VW Academy team and I presented John and Peggy with a piece of art in the form of a JOHN NUGENT CARICATURE (sounds redundant, right?!). I wanted to capture some of the fond memories we all shared, the stories we laughed about and the times we all spent together. I was so proud to present John and Peggy with the VW Academy signed, framed artwork that perfectly shows his spirit, energy and sense of humor. Ten years later makes this is no easier to write about missing John...but remembering John and continuing to share our fond stories of him is what helps ease the pain (even if for just a few seconds).
I often find myself flipping through photos of my time with John working at Volkswagen, wondering: "how would he shake things up now...?" and then just laugh to myself...knowing the answer.
Peggy and the entire extended Nugent family will always be in my heart as I know how much John´s memory means to them and us all.

Peggy and Family,
I wish I had learned of John's passing sooner, but please accept my condolences at this late date.
I had the pleasure of working with John some years back, and can attest to his quick wit, joyous attitude, and kind manner. His showing up at a national meeting in a cast due to his trying to, in his words, "kick a light switch on" remains a highlight memory, and the way I will always remember him.

Peggy, a little late. So sorry for your loss. John was my best friend through high school, we lost touch, but I thought of him frequently. Dear Nugent family. I worked with John in the mid-1990's as a trainer with Dave Parson and Associates. John impressed me because he always seemed to be so comfortable in who he was. Everyone he met quickly became a friend. And that voice!
Many years later, my daughter, son and I were on Anna Marie Island on vacation. We were picking up a few things at the grocery store when from the next aisle over I heard a voice I had not heard in years. John invited us to your vacation home on The Island. I was fortunate enough to cross paths with John one more time this spring when Volkswagen Credit toured the new plant in Chattanooga. John was one of the trainers taking us on a tour of the plant. I will always feel blessed to of known such a great man. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Like many who have signed here I also had the pleasure of working with John on many occasions over the past 12 years or so. We always looked forward to working and spending time with John. John was a friend and mentor to all of us that passed through the VW Academy. I worked with John in the Academy for 8.5 years and had fun every minute. Peggy, I only met you once, but felt I was a long time family friend with all the stories John told. He was loved by many and missed by all who knew him. The world lost a great man

I'm a better person for having known and worked with John for almost 11 years with Volkswagen. He was an inspiration to me, but more importantly, he was my friend. My sincere, heartfelt condolences go out to Peggy and the entire Nugent family. I will forever miss John's voice, charm and witty attitude. However, nothing compares to how I'll miss his friendship. There won't be a day that goes by where I won't think about John in some way.

Peggy and family,
As I have spoken about John this week, I have called him "one of the most beloved at First Presbyterian." Forever in my heart and mind will be his unconditional embrace of me and all whom he knew. I am so grateful I have known such a man of faith, compassion, and love. May God's loving presence give you peace. John has now seen the face of God...what glory! Praise be to God.

To the family of Mr. Nugent, I offer my sincerest condolences, Tom was ever the teacher, he made every class I attended with him in interesting and fun. He made you want to learn more and made you part of the class so what he taught stayed with you. But most of all he brought it down to my level of understanding and never talked down to anyone while doing so. I conected wih him because of his military background, much like mine. It was an absolute privilege to be able to work with John while at Volkswagen. He was an inspiration to all of us with his upbeat personality and down to earth explanations of highly technical issues. My heart goes out to the family. He will be missed, and forever remembered.

When told we would have to attend a training event, the first question was always "Who's teaching?". It was no wonder John's classes would fill up quickly, we all loved going to see him. I met John as a vendor for Volkswagen shortly after the launch of the New Beetle. I always LOVED his infectious sense of humor, his playful spirit, his "no BS" way of dealing with things and people, and his unparalleled charisma and commitment to excellence. Since his retirement, John has been working for us (automatik) as a contract facilitator -- and he has been OUTSTANDING in every way. What a JOY John has been. I miss him MUCH already. May the Peace of God be with John's family -- and all those who were honored to call John "friend."

Of all the VW trainers I was taught by, John was, by far, my favorite. Along with everyone I have talked to, John will be remembered as one of the best VW ever had.

I'll always remember John as being one of the first to make us feel welcome at church when Teri and I first brought my parents. I can't tell you how much it meant to that it was John, who helped serve the food at my Father's funeral service. To me, John was the First Presbyterian Church.I like to think that he will always be there.
