Joseph GRIMALDI Obituary

GRIMALDI, Joseph Francis "Joe"

was the eighth of eleven children. A "military brat," he was born at Torrejn AFB Madrid, Spain, and joined his father John, his mother Evelyn and his sister Angela Kristie, in eternal rest at mid afternoon Tuesday December 6, 2016. His unexpected departure occurred much too early for his family, and for the many lives that he touched. Joe was raised in Spain, and graduated from Melbourne, FL High School in 1976, where his family had relocated after 26 years in Europe. He attended USF, majoring in the Natural Sciences. He will be sorely missed by his extended family at Busch Gardens, where his aptitude for electronics led to a 36 year career where, at the time of his passing, he was a manager in the Engineering department. He is survived by his kindred spirit and devoted wife of over 30 years Susan (Bunch); his two sons, Jonathan and Christopher; his siblings Jerry (Mary), Michele (Max), Maria, Camille (Walter), Lissa (Scott), Lucia (Polo), Tony, Nick (Anita), and Paul (Cindy). He also had many nieces and nephews. Joe was multi-talented, be it woodworking, laying tile, or auto mechanic. It seems he could do it all. He and his family enjoyed camping, and over the years traveled all over the US, especially the eastern mountain states. True to his namesakes St. Joseph and St. Francis, he was the epitome of a gentle soul. No one can ever remember any harsh words uttered from his lips. He made his calm demeanor and soft voice available to all as an anchor in any storm. He persevered through all adversity, to the end, with a smile, a new joke, and always a happy thought to share. Unfortunately, he did inherit the Grimaldi gene for really corny humor. True to his wishes, there will be no formal services, however, if inclined, please devote any tribute to the causes that were dear to him, such as the arts (Susan is a talented and accomplished artist), military charities (Jonathan, USMC, is an Iraq vet) or the environment (Christopher graduated from USF in Environmental Sciences, three days after Joe passed). And true to his spirit, please join his family and celebrate his life and contributions, rather than dwell on the vacancy he has left in all our lives.

Joe,
You meant so much to so many that words cannot even express. After I transferred I wrote a huge thing about how much you and the crew at work meant to me. I never shared it for fear of being too cheesy. I really wish I would have just so you could know how much I cared. You're one of the best human beings any person can know. I miss you, everyone does. I'll see you on the other side.

Although i'd only knew you for a short time, you taught me a lot while working with you. Your jokes might have been subpar but that was why they were always funny. I could definitely tell you were a kind and gentle soul that would always give his best effort for anything. I'm thankful to have met you. R.I.L

J1, as I knew him, was a great dude. Working closely with him over the last 12 years was definitely the best work experience of my life. I learned a lot watching him and will miss the hell out of him. The electronics dept seems empty without him there. I'm grateful to have even known him.

Joe was by far my favorite of the Grimaldi boys. He will be missed , but never forgotten in the hearts of many people. Joe was a special spirit that had a calming effect on all that came in contact with him.
My love to all of his family and may God give you some peace at this time of loss.

I will always remember Joe as one of my favorite people at Busch. He was an old soul who did not ruffle easily. I left the gardens after 32 years of service. I did not know Joe was promoted to manager. Someone made a great decision. My heart goes out to all who will have to go on without Joe. He was always there for, and so dedicated to so many. ❤

I worked with Joe for all his years at Busch Gardens. He was a wonderful, funny, sweet and caring man. He went about his job fixing electronic equipment in a steadfast manner but always leaving the people he worked with confident that their problem was being addressed and a lingering laugh or a smile on their face. My deepest condolences to Joe's family, friends and co-workers. Gone far too soon, his gentle and unassuming attitude and terrific sense of humor will be missed and always cherished.
