Larry Parent Obituary

PARENT, Larry E., 70, of Beech Mountain, N.C. and Lake Placid, died August 22, 2006, at the Duke University Medical center of complications after surgery. He was born in New York City. Mr. Parent served in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in Japan. He retired in 1996 from Holman Automotive as President of their South Florida operations after 37 years of service. In his retirement years, he and his wife, Carol, enjoyed much traveling, hiking, cycling, and tennis. Mr. Parent was a member of the St. Bernadette Catholic Parish in Linville, N.C. He was the son of the late Lawrence E. Parent and the late Sarah Noble Curry, both of Maine. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Hayden Parent. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Carol; children, Sandra Parent, Lawrence E. Parent III and his wife, Tracy, Christopher Parent and his wife Laura; sister, Christine Foster and her husband, Leon; brother, Steven Parent and his wife, Judy; six grandchildren. Larry had many extended family members and a host of friends who meant so much to him through the years. A funeral mass for Larry Parent will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 2, 2006, from the Saint Bernadette Catholic Church in Linville, with Father Christopher Gober officiating. A memorial service will be conducted on November 18, 2006, in Lake Placid. Those considering memorial donations may make them to the Banner Elk Volunteer Fire Department - ALS Program, c/o Reins Sturdivant Funeral Home, PO Box 215, Newland, N.C. 28657.
