Lemonia POUMAKIS Obituary
born on July 29, 1932 in the island of Ikaria, Greece, passed away Feb. 13, 2016. Her father George Kalergios from Karkinagri Ikaria, Greece. Her mother Stamatia Tsandris from Rahes Ikaria, Greece. Graduated High School from Styvenson in Manhattan, NYC with honors. Graduated College from St. Josephs in Ronkonkama, NY. Masters degree in education from Queens College in Queens, NY. Married George Poumakis in Jersey City, NJ in 1954. Had two children Vasili and Penelope born in Port Jefferson, NY. Moved to Clearwater in 1977. Taught in Hernando and Hillsborough Counties for 19 years. Co-founder of the two. Athenian Academy Charter schools in Pinellas and Pasco County. Principal for three years at the Athenian Academy in Dunedin. Founder and Proprietor of Athenian Academy Preschool. Funeral home at Curlew Hills, 1750 Curlew Rd. Palm Harbor, 34683. Funeral Service Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 11 am at St. Raphael Church 32888 US 19 N. Palm Harbor, 34683. Burial service to follow at 12 noon at Curlew Hills. Lemonia was loved by five grandchildren, Ari, Vasili, Alexandra, Alexis, and Georgio; her husband George; her two children, Vasili Poumakis, Penelope Veloudos; son-in-law, Alex Veloudos. Most of all beloved teacher by thousands of students. Lemomia was born to be a teacher and she was. In Lieu of flowers please donate to Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene Greek Orthodox Church.
