LARKSVILLE — Lorraine Gillespie, 78, of Larksville, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022 in Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas.
She was born in Kingston, daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine Puk Sauruk.
Lorraine can be described as one of a kind. She always did what she thought was best for everyone around her. When her granddaughter's, Mykala, mother had left, she stepped up to play both roles of her grandmother and mother all in one. Lorraine enjoyed the company of others and anyone who knew her knew she loved to talk. She spent a lot of time at the senior center in Edwardsville in her later years where she enjoyed playing shuffleboard and talking about her grandchildren to others. She lived a wonderful life and lived in the home her husband and her had built until she had passed. She is at peace now with her husband, who are both watching down on their son and grandchildren.
Lorraine graduated from West Side Central Catholic and began working at People's National Bank in Edwardsville upon graduation. She took courses in AIB to further her career in banking. Later in life she worked at Susquehanna Savings, Wyoming Valley West School District, and Wyoming Valley Healthcare. Upon retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at State Street Elementary School and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Gillespie.
Lorraine is survived by her son, James Gillespie; and grandchildren, Mykala, Gabriel, and Tyler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. in St. Ignatius Church. Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerbey Ave., Kingston. Interment will be in St. Hedwig's Cemetery, Larksville
