Michael Devito Obituary

DeVITO, Michael F. died on March 11, 2008 after a long illness. He grew up in Manhattan and lived in NJ and PA before retiring to Florida. He received his BS and MS degrees in engineering from the City College of New York and his master's of science from Newark College of Engineering. He worked for RCA Corp. for 38 years as an Engineering Leader and Project Engineer receiving special recognition for his work on the Apollo 11 space program. He was a member and Eucharistic Minister at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church. Michael served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Signal Corps of the U.S. Army as a Signal Officer and as Chief of the Technical Intelligence Office at the Yokahama, Japan Signal Office. He was a member of IEEE, the Association of Old Crows, Senior Member of the Institute of Environmental Sciences, American Management Association and the Engineering honor societies of Tau Beta Pi and Ita Kappa Nu. Michael began fencing at Stuyvesant H.S. in NY where he was City Champion. He continued fencing in college and after retirement receiving several medals at tournaments. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Angela G; sons, David F., of Eagle River AK, Michael J., of Safety Harbor, and Mark C., of Fredericksburg, VA; and 7 grandchildren. Visitations will be at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Rd., Clearwater, on Sunday March 16, 1-3 and 6-8 pm. A Mass will be offered at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church on Monday March 17, 2008 at 10:30 am. Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home 2853 Sunset Point Rd., Clearwater
