1951 - 2022

WILLIAMSON, Michael G. 71, of Tampa, FL, passed away November 3, 2022, surrounded by family and loved ones. Judge Williamson was born on February 22, 1951, in West Point, NY, to Col. John "Jack" Williamson and Alice (McAniff) Williamson. As the son of a "West Pointer" and decorated veteran, Judge Williamson spent his early childhood in Spain and Taiwan. After his father retired from the U.S. Army, Judge Williamson's family settled in Melbourne, FL, where Judge Williamson graduated from Melbourne High in 1969. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Duke University, and in 1976, he graduated from Georgetown University Law Center. Judge Williamson then spent more than twenty years in private practice in Orlando, FL, with Maguire, Voorhis & Wells, P.A. It was during that time that Judge Williamson met (and later married) the love of his life, Linda Cappelli. Together, Judge Williamson and Linda had two children, Michelle and Scott. On March 1, 2000, Judge Williamson was appointed as a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Middle District of Florida. For more than two decades, Judge Williamson, a brilliant writer and thinker with a keen sense of humor, served the Middle District of Florida with honor and distinction, including as its Chief Judge from 2015 to 2019. Judge Williamson was a devoted husband and father. And he was an avid boater, sailor, skier, and runner. Judge Williamson will be greatly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all those who had the privilege to appear before him. A celebration oflLife will be held at the Tampa Yacht Club, 5320 Interbay Blvd., Tampa, FL at 1 pm on Sunday, November 20, 2022.
