Paul Clifton Aust

AUST, Paul Clifton 90, of Clearwater, died peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009 in Woodside Hospice House, Pinellas Park. He was born in Schlater, MS, graduated from Sunflower Agricultural High School and Sunflower Jr. College, Moorehead, MS, in 1939, where he had a scholarship to play football. He continued his education on a football scholarship at Delta State Teachers College, Cleveland, MS, where he earned his B.S. Degree; then entered the education field where he held various positions as coach, schoolteacher and principal. During this time he earned a Masters Degree in School Administration from the University of Mississippi, Oxford, MS, and later completed graduate courses at the University of Florida. In 1957, Paul and family moved to Crystal River, in 1960, they moved to Clearwater and he taught 24 years at Dunedin Middle School where he also served as chairman of the Social Studies Department. He was an active member of the Phi Delta Kappa Educational Fraternity. In, 1984, he retired after 42 years in the field of education. He served as deacon at Skycrest Baptist Church in Clearwater for 42 years, and was currently a member of the North Dunedin Baptist Church, Dunedin, FL. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn; son, Elwood of Gainesville; daughter, Karen McClung of Hendersonville, TN; one granddaughter, Catherine Aust, University of Florida, Gainesville; two grandsons, 2nd LT Cliff McClung, Ft. Benning, GA; and Kyle McClung, Maryville College, Maryville, TN; daughter-in-law, Trudy Aust and son-in-law, Howard McClung. Visitation at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 25, from 10:30-11:30 am, with services to begin at 11:30 am.
