Paul DeVita Obituary

ACHILLES PAUL AUGIE DEVITA Achilles Paul "Augie" DeVita, 94, of Lake Placid, Fla., was called home to be with the Lord Thursday, July 3, 2008. Augie died at his Covered Bridge residence surrounded by his loving family and Good Shepherd Hospice. Augie was a native Pennsylvanian, born to Ms. Crestina and Aurelio DeVita June 29, 1914, in Wilmerding, Pa. As a young man, Augie went to work at Wright Aeronautical during World War II, making aircraft parts. He later operated his own pig iron foundry in New Jersey. Augie then worked for Hewett-Robbins as a sales manager for their foundry, selling equipment. As Augie grew older, he owned an engineering business in South Florida, drawing plans for mining equipment before retiring after 20 years. He came to Lake Placid in 1978 from Hallendale, Fla. He was a member of the Lake Placid Elks Lodge 2661, the Lions Club and American Italian Club in Miami, Fla. Augie was a faithful member of the St. James Catholic Church in Lake Placid. Augie is survived by his loving wife, Frances (Sobieski), whom he wed in Miami, July 4, 1958; son, Michael (Charlotte) of Lake Placid; sister, Juliette Kehoe of North Haledon, N.J.; and daughter-in-law, Gloria Friedenthal of Dallas, Texas. He leaves a granddaughter, Audrey Friedenthal and great-grandson, Martin Friedenthal, both of Dallas. Augie was preceded in death by his son, Martin in 1998. Family members will receive friends 3-6 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2008, at the Michael A. Brochetti Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2008, at St. James Catholic Church with Father Vicente Llaria celebrating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lake Placid. In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made to St. Vincent DePaul c/o St. James, 3380 Placid View Drive, Lake Placid, FL 33852, of the March of Dimes. Funeral arrangements are under the loving devotion of the Michael A. Brochetti Funeral Home Inc. 404 Plaza Ave. Lake Placid, FL 33852
