Robert Rodgers Obituary

RODGERS, Robert C. "Bob," 83, passed away gently in his sleep Thursday, March 30, 2006, while in the intensive care unit at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Mr. Rodgers was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., June 24, 1922. He is the son of the late Daniel Edgar Rodgers and Eva May Young. Mr. Rodgers graduated from Niagara Falls High School and served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On June 6, 1944, as a gunners mate, second class, he made six trips from ship to shore, dropping troops onto Omaha Beach during the Allied Invasion of Normandy. On September 11, 1948, he married his beloved wife, Hannah "Regina" McLean at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Niagara Falls, Ontario. Mr. Rodgers was a member of Riverside Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon, played in the hand bell choir and sang in the chancel choir. Even in his passing, Mr. Rodgers was an organ donor with UNYTS. Bob was an avid New York Yankees fan, loved the Buffalo Bills and bowling with his cherished brother-in-law, William R. (Mary) McLean of Niagara Falls, Ontario.Mr. Rodgers is the cherished father of Barbara of Niagara Falls, Judy of North Tonawanda and Maggie Garrett of Tampa; and the loving grandfather of Emily and Andrew Garrett. He also is survived by his sister-in-law, Isabelle (wife of the late John) Bald of Niagara Falls, Ontario; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. He was predeceased by a sister, Mildred (wife of the late Charles) Strack. Services were conducted Monday at Riverside Presbyterian Church, Niagara Falls. Memorials may be made to Chiapas Mexico Medical Mission in care of Sisters of St. Francis Development Office, 4421 Lower River Road, Stella Niagara, NY 14144. Lane Funeral Home, Inc., is handling arrangements.
