I had been hired by Mr. Spear's Aloha Utilities, Inc. back in April or June 1990. I personally met Mr. & Linda Speer as well as son Richard. Although he never knew it, secretly he was a big role model. My belated condolences go out to his family.

Roy Speer was a complicated man who didn't let his vision by bound by convention. I worked for him many years ago, when HSN first went public. He was a strong yet very caring person, bigger than life, really. I learned the value of hard work and tenacity under his mentorship, and I shall always be grateful for that. My condolences to his family.

Much sadness at Roy's passing.....We were partners in several health-related businesses. He was my business mentor and he was tough....but an incredible teacher and wealth of information and experience. We became close friends over the years and this saddens me deeply....May you rest in comfort and peace with God, my friend....

I am so sorry to hear of Roy's death and send all of my thoughts to Lisa, Richard, Robert, and your mom. Your father gave me quite the education in the years I spent doing business at the network and then even afterwards when we worked together a few years after that on other projects. He was an amazing man with an amazing business mind and quick wit that I totally enjoyed being around. I will be forever grateful that I got to know him and work with him. I send you all my thoughts and prayers for your dad. He was a good man, and you were all lucky to have him.

I am sad to learn of this. Roy gave me a huge break back in the early 90's when I was a young single parent trying to make it on my own. I was chosen to be his Executive Assistant. I will never forget the words he said to me when I was interviewing for the job. "I really respect you young lady for raising your child alone". He went on to say that his mom meant the world to him. I will never forget that opportunity that he gave me because he had faith. God Bless him and I'm sure he is riding on clouds in his favorite boat: "the Dream".

Lynnda: I am so saddened to hear about Roy's passing. He was wonderful to me when I ran for Florida Senate 4-years ago. When I visited with Roy at his office in the industrial park, we often spoke of business topics more than politics. We discussed a business broker venture that we were going to call Speer-Taylor & Associates. That business would list businesses for sale and find qualified buyers for them. We never managed to get back together to complete it. The last time I spoke with Roy on the phone, he said. "I will call to take you a ride in my new car and we will work on Speer-Taylor." The call never came to my disappointment, because I really respected Roy. Patty and I will always cherish the dinner we enjoyed at you and Roy's home. We both wanted to write this note and tell you we are thinking and praying for you and your family. If you want to touch base with us, our home phone is 727-376-0240. God bless and comfort you, Lynnda.

My condolences to Roy's family and friends. Roy was so generous to my family and my son was fortunate to have received a scholarship from him. His generosity has been instrumental in my son's success. I wish I had been able to thank him one last time for just being a friend in our life. May God bless all of you in this time of sorrow.

Roy was a wonderful friend, mentor and beacon of strength that helped sculpt the lives of countless people he supported throughout his life. His loyalty and resolve single handedly lead by example and built something from nothing, a trait more rare than the giant heart he had beneath his tough exterior. His pioneering and fearless spirit helped create an amazing legacy which will be missed, but his friendship, kindness and love will leave behind memories and smiles for all who knew and loved him. We'll miss you Roy - but you will always be with us!

I worked for Mr. Speer for 3 years doing property maintenance and before that me and my boyfriend Terry Spencer worked for him doing construction. He was always very kind when talking to us and later, in 2005, when my boyfriend died of cancer, Roy and Lynnda Speer helped me with not only financial problems, but also took up donations and donated money themselves that helped me to pay for the funeral. They also gave a beautiful card of inspiration and beautiful flowers for the funeral. I know Lynnda has faith in God and I would like to give her my condolences and say thank you for all you have done for me.
