Sadie Ebanks Obituary

EBANKS, Sadie Gweneth, wife of Irvy Ebanks, joined our Heavenly Father January 20, 2009. She is survived by her husband, Irvy Ebanks; son, Gary Ebanks and his wife, Lou; daughter, Donna Dunn and her husband, Bruno; and grandchildren, Wesley, Ryan and Ashley Ebanks and Jason, Bradley and Rebecca Dunn. Also left to celebrate her life are siblings, Ethel Farrington, Alice Ebanks, Benson Ebanks, and Calvert Ebanks; sisters-in-law, Madge Ebanks and Marjorie Ebanks, and their respective families; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including Wentworth Ebanks. She is predeceased by brother, Graham Ebanks. Born July 23, 1929, to Captain Benson and Ethel Ebanks, Sadie immigrated from West Bay, Grand Cayman, British West Indies, to Tampa in August 1953, where she raised her family. While living in Tampa, she was an active member of Bel-Mar Presbyterian Church and Tampa Bay Women' s Club. Sadie frequently volunteered in her children' s school, the American Red Cross, and the American Cancer Society. Sadie cared deeply for others, especially those less fortunate than herself, and did her utmost to assist people in need. In 1999, due to declining health, Sadie moved to Charlotte, N.C., to reside in Southminister Retirement Center with husband, Irvy. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff and friends of Southminster, Quail Hollow Presbyterian Church, and hospice for their care. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to Southminster Retirement Community, 8919 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210, Quail Hollow Presbyterian Church, 8801 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210 or Programs of Hospice, 1420 East Seventh St., Charlotte, NC 28204. A service to celebrate Sadie' s life will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, January 23, at Quail Hollow Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, N.C., with the Rev. Gus Succop officiating. Interment will follow the service at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, Matthews/Weddington, N.C. Arrangements for the family are in the care of Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel.
