Sally Ward Obituary

WARD, Sally Ann White of Stratford Court in Palm Harbor, died at Suncoast Hospice, Brookside Hospice on Sept. 4, 2010. Born Sept. 11, 1930, Mrs. Ward was the daughter of Dr. Franklin Turner White and Mrs. Lena George White and the twin sister of Jenny Jo White Linn. Sally Ann and Jenny Jo grew up on Lookout Mountain, TN. Mrs. Ward attended Girl's Preparatory School in Chattanooga, Randolph Macon Women's College and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. She later attended The University of South Florida and received her Masters degree in Library Science after her children were grown. Mrs. Ward spent twenty years in Dunedin married to Charles Steele Baird and was known as Sally Ann Baird at that time. She was as active volunteer at Mease Hospital and in the Junior Service League. She later worked at the Dunedin Library as the reference librarian. She was married briefly to Mr. Ross Ward and moved to Naples, FL as Sally Ann White Ward, where she resided until 2008. She was also an active volunteer in Naples and was very involved in her church, Trinity by the Cove Episcopal Church. She was a member of the Magna Carta Dames. Mrs. Ward traveled extensively throughout the world and was fascinated by the art, culture and history of other countries. She also painted throughout her life, both in oils and watercolor. She and her twin sister, Jenny Jo White Linn wrote and published "A Real Book: A Southern Past in Double Vision", which explored how differently twins can experience childhood events and also reflected upon Southern culture. Her survivors include her daughter, Melissa D. Baird and son-in-law, John H. Marzulli of Tarpon Springs; daughter, Dr. Elizabeth F. Baird, son-in-law, Robert L. Thomas and grandson, Alexander Steele Baird of Dunedin and niece, Sarah Arrington Linn of Charlotte, NC. A memorial service to celebrate Sally Ann's life will be held at St. Alfred's Episcopal Church, 1601 Curlew Road, Palm Harbor at 4:30 pm on Sept. 14, 2010. The family is grateful for the care provided by the staff of Stratford Court, CCU at Mease Dunedin and Suncoast Hospice Foundation. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer a donation to Suncoast Hospice. Arrangements are under the care of Curlew Hills Funeral Home, Palm Coast, FL.

We will miss her dearly during the holidays, she was always a wonderful, vibrant presence at the Kamensky household. I loved her the day I met her. Nothing could hold a candle to Mrs. Baird.

I have fond memories of sharing Small Group with her at Trinity by the Cove for many years. And of course we all appreciated her contribution to the services for so many years. I have missed her presence these last years. Love, Nan Dietrich
