Samuel ALLEN Obituary

ALLEN, Samuel Harry 93, of Seminole, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2022 following a prolonged battle with congestive heart failure. The love of his life, Marcia, with whom he celebrated their 71st Anniversary the day before was with him as he left his earthly home. Sam is survived by his wife, Marcia; their three children, Kathy (Don) Bates, Debbie (Dave) Welch and Jim (Beth) Allen; his sister, Donna Ingraham and her husband Jerry Beavon of Sun City, Florida. Sam had a total of six grandchildren four that survive him and two that passed within the last year. Sam is also survived by nine great-grandchildren. Sam was born May 20, 1929 in New Castle, Pennsylvania, Sam met Marcia while both were attending Bob Jones University in South Carolina. Sam served in the US Army from 1951-1953. Sam and Marcia were married in 1951 in Troy, Ohio but soon moved to Baltimore, Maryland where all three of their children were born. They moved to Seminole, Florida in 1968 where Sam pursued his dream of owning his own business. He took over the Allen R Shuffleboard Co which is known worldwide not only for his manufacturing of the equipment used in the sport of shuffleboard but also for his relentless promotion of the sport both domestically as well as internationally, earning the renowned nickname of The Shuffleboard King. In 1975 he founded the Allen Sports Center in Seminole, Florida that supplied many schools, little leagues, and families with sports equipment for 43 years. He loved fishing and anything water related and his tales from his many fishing excursions are legendary to this day. Sam Allen was one of a kind. His humor was contagious as was his optimism and positive attitude. While he loved the business dearly, nothing was as important to him as his family. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations in the name of Sam Allen be sent to worthwhile charities of your choice, including the American Heart Association. www.gardensanctuaryfunerals.com
