Steve ROUSE Obituary

ROUSE, Steve

68, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a loving father, brother, uncle, and friend and will be missed by all who knew him. Steve is survived by his children, Robert Rouse and Mary Rouse of Boston, MA; their mother, Ann Coryn of St. Petersburg; his brother, Richard Rouse and wife, Carol; and his nephew, Michael Rouse of North East, PA. He was born May 29, 1947, to Robert W. Rouse and Lois Felton Rouse, and graduated from North East High School in North East, PA in 1965. Steve excelled in sports, joining the track and cross-country teams, and eventually placing 5th in the state of Pennsylvania for cross-country running. This gained the attention of national recruiters and he received an athletic scholarship to Florida State University, where he continued his track career. In addition to his studies and track, he was an active member of Sigma Chi Fraternity's Epsilon Zeta chapter and excelled in multiple intramural sports within the organization. Steve graduated from Florida State University in 1969, with a Bachelor's degree in Business and a deep year-round passion for Seminoles' athletics. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Florida State University's Track & Field Scholarship fund on Steve's behalf. The mailing address is Seminole Boosters, Attn: Kari Terezakis, PO Box 1353, Tallahassee, FL 32302. Online memorial available at:

I was saddened to hear of Steve's passing from this terrible dreaded disease. Even though I had not seen Steve in the 30+ years since I transferred from Tampa, I remember very well his kindness and helpfulness during the several years that I worked with him. My sincere sympathies to his family and friends.

So sorry to hear of Steve's passing. He excelled at every sport he tried. At North East High School he was a great basketball player and excelled in track and cross country. Steve would have excelled in football, too. One summer I worked with him at Eureka. One season I remember his suffering through terrible shin splints. He was a really good guy and he will be missed by all those mid-1960's NEHS athletes who tried to be half as good as he was. All my condolences and prayers.

So very sorry to hear of Steve's passing.....he was a loyal friend to many. I had the pleasure of first getting to know Steve and his children when he lived next door to us in Bradenton. He shared many meals, drinks at the tiki bar and always had a story. His smile was contagious! My heart goes out to Robert and Mary at this difficult time. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

I was so sorry to hear about Steve's passing. I knew him in Bradenton, Florida as well as Highlands, N C. He was always helpful and kind. I last saw him in Highlands and he seemed happy to be in the mountains where we all had so many good times !
