Steven SCOTT Obituary

SCOTT, Steven John

61, died at home May 24, 2016, in Pompano Beach, from complications due to several illnesses.

Born and raised in South Tampa, and a proud fourth-generation Floridian, Steve was predeceased by his parents Edward F. and Bettie G. Scott, and his sister, Bunny Scott.

Steve was a beloved brother of Bruce Scott (Wynelle), Mark Scott (Linda), Vickie Horowitz (Alan), Julianne Ross and Greg Scott (Tammy), and a favorite uncle to numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He also leaves behind his long-time friend and chosen brother, Tom Esler.

The simple things in life gave Steve such joy. He loved cooking for friends and family, watching movies with Tom, watching major tennis tournaments and, yes, sad to say, he got a particular kick out of sharing silly cat videos with his many Facebook friends.

Steve loved being pampered, and regularly treated himself to massages and relaxing acupuncture therapy, or as he called it, "ahhhhhhcupuncture."

With wit and wisdom, Steve enjoyed engaging in spirited repartee with those around him and online. He was a funny guy. Interestingly, despite being rather free-spirited, he was unfailingly practical and well-organized. Being a true member of the Edward Scott family clan, Steve was genetically programmed to get full value for his hard-earned dollar. He sought out the better things in life but was sure to use his well-honed Google researching skills to get the best possible deal.

Steve worked many years in the food service industry, including managing food services for major tech corporations in Silicon Valley before moving into staffing services for the same industry. Later in life, he reeducated himself in technology and worked in IT quality control and computerized educational design.

Despite difficulty getting around, Steve was generous to a fault, and enjoyed the time he spent volunteering at the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program in Ft. Lauderdale.

While encountering a number of health issues over many years, Steve taught us all how to be positive and make the most of the time we have. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

On Sunday, May 29, there will be visitation at 3 pm and a memorial service at 4 pm at:

I am not sure why Steven's obit caught my eye while reading the paper this morning, but I am glad that it did. I want to express my sympathy to the family members and pray that God will help give them the strength needed in times of grief . I think the reason I saw this was because I went to SHA with Bunny and the last time I saw anyone in the Scott family was at her funeral many years ago as distance and time kept us apart. God bless all of you.
