Oh, I cried when I read my beloved Spiritual Director, Fr. Fitz passed away.
He's a very loving n joyful person. He always remembered my voice whenever I called him though we haven't seen each
other since he left the Phillipines.

Oh, Father, I cried when I heard of you leaving San Antonio and now I cry at the news of your death. You were always so welcoming….I miss you so much - we all do. I still remember Colette running up to you, as you processed down the isle (after Mass) and giving you a hug - and you hugging her back - each and every time we were there. O God, how very fortunate we at St. Joseph Downtown Catholic Church were to have had Reverend Thomas J. Fitzgerald, S.S.S. as "a servant to the sacred priesthood of Jesus Christ, according to the Order of Melchisedech, giving him the sublime power to offer the Eternal Sacrifice, to bring the Body and Blood of Thy Son Jesus Christ down upon the altar, and to absolve the sins of men in Thine own Holy Name. We beseech Thee to reward his faithfulness and to forget his faults, admitting him speedily into Thy Holy Presence, there to enjoy forever the recompense of his labors. This we ask through Jesus Christ Thy Son, our Lord. Amen."

Fr. Tom will truly be missed. He married my husband and I 13 years ago and we still talk about his heart-felt homily. He told a joke that we still laugh about today. We still find strength knowing that he asked all our loved ones to pray for us, because he knew marriage is a beautiful journey with lots of ups and downs. Rest in Peace Fr Tom!

Fr. Fitzgerald was a native son of St. Jean Baptiste Church in New York City where he was much loved. My Mother still tells the story of Fr. Tom's own Mother waiting on the steps of the Church with a loaf of Irish soda bread for him that first Christmas Eve after his ordination. I am sure that they are now reunited in Heaven. Rest in peace Father Tom.
