Thomas John Kaplan

KAPLAN, Thomas John 68, of Mount Dora, FL passed away on Nov. 30, 2009. He was born on June 20, 1941 in Miami Beach to the late Joseph Kaplan and Aimee (Loeb) Kaplan. Tom obtained his B.S. degree from Florida Southern College in Lakeland and his M.B.A. from Pacific Western University. He served 8 years in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a decorated Vietnam veteran in 1968, holding rank as Captain. In 1969, Tom began his 32-year career with Eckerd Drug Company where he served in a number of management positions including Vice President. Tom and his wife, Becky moved from Sanibel Island to Mount Dora in 2006. He was currently working as a Boat Captain at Lake County Water Ways. Tom was also an instructor with Sea School, and was a member of the Florida Guides Association. He loved to be on the water, play in the yard, read books, Miami Hurricane Football, and his favorite was time spent with his family. Tom is survived by his wife of 35 years, Becky of Mount Dora; daughter, Aimee; Angel, the dog; and many special family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 10am on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009 at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home in Mount Dora. A graveside service and interment with Military Funeral Honors will take place at 1:30pm on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009 at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. A special account has been set up to receive donations for the Tom Kaplan Memorial Scholarship Fund at the University of Miami.
