Thomas STRICKLAND Obituary

STRICKLAND, Thomas Lee "Strick" 63, left our world on November 29, 2022, after a brief illness. He fought back the best he could, but ultimately acknowledged that God had other plans for him. Tom was born in Austin, TX, to Robert and Evelyn Strickland on April 28, 1959. He was predeceased by his mother. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Bonnie; his father, Robert; his daughter, Ashley; his son, Tommy Jr.; daughter-in-law, Kim; grandchildren, Finn and Lily; his brother, Blaine Stricklan; sister-in-law, Eileen; niece, Casey; nephew, Hunter; his sister, Jill Williams; brother-in-law, Andy; niece, Whitney; and nephew, Drew. Tom graduated from Florida Institute of Technology in 1979, the University of Florida in 1983, with a bachelor's degree in building construction, and achieved his LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited professional designation in 2009. Tom's unwavering commitment to a set of core values was applied to every aspect of his life: honesty and integrity, trust and respect, competency and teamwork. These became the foundation upon which Tom and Bonnie established Suncoast AutoBuilders in 1987, a design/build construction company that specializes in building automotive facilities. To date, they have completed over 400 new or remodeled dealership projects throughout Florida, plus South Carolina, Alabama, Nevada, Arizona, and Hawaii. In recent years, the company changed its name to Suncoast Team Services, to better reflect the diversification of their portfolio, which now includes a wide range of assignments, ranging from office complexes, law offices, medical facilities, churches, and custom luxury homes. Tom was defined by his commitment to his faith, family, and friends. He was always mindful of the work/life balance, whether it was creating special events for his employees, or pursuing his favorite pastimes of boating, fishing, and hunting. He was also a devoted member of C12 and Harbor Ministries. A memorial service is scheduled for 4 pm on December 15, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in St. Petersburg. A celebration of life will be held afterwards; the location of that gathering will be announced at the end of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting donations to Academy Prep Center of St. Petersburg (https://stpete.academyprep.org/), Alzheimer's Association (alz.org), or to the American Cancer Society.

My beautiful friend Bonnie and all your wonderful family. I am deeply saddened by the news of Tom´s passing as I know you all are devastated. I know God has a plan for us all even when we don´t understand. I pray for God´s love and comfort to surround you all and carry you through. I will not be able to attend service today as I am in Georgia and very sick, but I will be there in spirit. I Love You All! I will always treasure the memories of growing up with you and Tom in St. Pete. Special memories of our Keys trip and racing home with Andrew coming at us. Bonnie, you and Tom have been such great friends to me and a model couple to many. I admire your honest qualities and faith which you so gladly give to others! Until we meet Tom again in heaven, carry on your God given strength and know you have a Special Angel watching over you and your family! Love You All! Debbie

Dearest Colonel Strickland, Bonnie, Jill, Blaine & Family,

To hear of Tom's passing came as a total shock, and incredibly sad news to all of our family.

My fondest memories were of this handsome young man playing basketball on the driveway of the family home.

I was blessed to have witnessed Bonnie & Tom's wedding 36 years ago - a beautiful day with beautiful people.

Sending you all of our Love, Sincerest Condolences and Deepest Sadness for the loss of a fine gentleman taken too soon...but who made a huge impact in a such short life.

God Bless all of you...

With All Our Love,

Lisa-Jane, Bobby, Susan & Bob Statton

Tom my friend our time together was way to short. The memories Suzanne and I have with you and Bonnie are price-less. We had so many more plans in the future but God had much grander plans for you. That is how you lived your life in Gods Grace. Your steady calm demeanor and caring attitude for everyone you met is a great legacy to leave behind. Until we meet again rest in peace my brother. Prayers to Bonnie and the entire Strickland family.

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Tom. My condolences to Bonnie and the family. I worked for Tom at Suncoast from 2000 until 2008 and developed many lasting friendships through the opportunity Tom gave me. We delivered many successful projects, while having a great time doing so. The activities at our River Ranch weekends are forever instilled in my mind.
