Wallace Joiner Obituary

JOINER, Wallace G., of Tampa, went to be with the Lord on August 11, 2004. He left this world as he lived it, surrounded by loving family and friends. Waiting in heaven, were his parents and sisters, Leona, Dorothy, Gladys and Maxine, and nephew, Marc. He is survived by his wife, Monica; daughter, Roslyn Lawton and husband, Warren; son, Wally Joiner Jr. and wife, Jeanne; daughter, Lorrie Joiner; son, John Joiner and wife, Teresa; and 10 grandchildren, Shannon, Ivy, Josh, Nathan, Brendon, Amy, Collin, Cortni, Kyle and Alexis. He was blessed with two great-granddaughters, Peyton and Kendall and numerous loving and adored nieces and nephews. Wallace joined the Marine Corps during World War II and served in the South Pacific with the 3rd Marine Division. He was a Marine for the remainder of his years. His numerous occupations included cabinet maker, commercial artist and insurance and financial planner, for which he was a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Round. His passion for art provided endless hours of enjoyment during his retirement years. His paintings have been displayed around the state and nation, winning him numerous awards. Wallace was an avid tennis player and snow skier, and he ran in the Gasparilla Distance Classic until he reached his early 70s. He loved following the Bucs and Lightning even through the bad years. Every morning at 8 a.m. you would find Wallace at the Northwest YMCA with his group of friends, staying fit and telling stories. Wallace developed a great fascination for Tampa as he was born and lived his entire life here. He enjoyed sharing many stories about the history of the city he loved so much. The family will receive friends 1-3 p.m. Sunday, August 15, 2004, at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 3207 W. Bearss Ave. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Inc. in his memory or the charity of your choice.

Dear Monica and Family,

Glenn and I want to express our sadness in Wally's passing, but we want to rejoice with you in the life of this wonderful man. We spent many hours with Wally at the Bucs games and at other social functions. He loved being with friends and family and we will remember his sharp wit and his love of Liar's Poker!
