I'd only seen Walter a few times in our early years and remember him as having a positive outlook and jovial character. My condolences to his family.

Zig, you and Erika were such dear friends to our entire family for so many years, and you were like a father to me. My stepdad, Jim De Witt, served with you in the 11th Airborne and we've always called you "Army Buddy Walter." You and Erika were so supportive of my mom when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and I was always comforted knowing how close by you were to them when I was stationed around the country. You are missed by so many, but at least we have the good memories we created when you were still here.

I hope you knew how important our friendship had been to me over the last 40 years. From the 80s when we were taking care of our BMWs. Through the 90s, when you stood by me as my best man when I married Kathy. Through the 2000s to the present day when I always looked forward to our visits and hang time. Rest in peace, my dear friend. -Paulie-
