I am truly sorry for your loss. It's comforting to realize that God never forgets those who have died. Rather, He views each human as individually important and special.(Isaiah 40:28) The scriptures speak of a time when we will be able to see our loved ones again. At John 5:28,29 this is promised. My prayers are with your family at this time. May the God of comfort grant you peace.

Being a retired deputy and living in Western North Carolina sometimes news is delayed. I have just learned of the passing of Sheriff Heinrich. Men like Sheriff Heinrich are hard to come by anymore. It was a pleasure to work under his command.

Going back to 1981, I did a lot of volunteer work with Crime Prevention which eventually led to the formation of the Hillsborough County Neighborhood
Watch Association. During the next several years, as an officer of the association, I had a lot of contact with Sheriff Heinrich. He was always so warm and caring. No matter how busy he was, he always found the time to speak with me. He was a true gentleman and I have the utmost respect for who he was and what he accomplished.
I only hope that your wonderful memories will help to alleviate some of your pain.

Walter Heinrich was a true gentleman. I interned at HCSO with him in Crime Preventn in the early 70's and my mother Trudy Rodriguez worked there until she retired in the early 90's His support of women in law enforcement and the general community is a model for others. I will always remember his compassion, professionalism and his sense of humor. His stories and antics were great fun but no one ever got down to business like him. We share his loss with his family and know that he is with his beloved Phyllis. We will hold all of the family in our prayers. We have all lost an extraordinary man.

To the Heinrich family, I share the sadness of your loss. I met Sheriff Heinrich when I was 21 years old, where he recruited me to intern, then work at the Sheriff's Office. From there I completed a 28 year career because of his support professionally and personally. It was an honor to work for him, and will also forever treasure his friendship. I grew up as a kid hearing the name "Walter Heinrich" because my father worked for him. At times, they were at odds with one another, so much so that Sheriff Heinrich was uneasy about hiring me as a deputy over 20 years ago saying, "I'm not sure I can take another Haber." Just before he retired, Sheriff Heinrich confided in me that he was glad that he had ignored his "gut feeling" and hired me anyway. I couldn't have asked for a greater compliment.

We feel sadness in our hearts, as we send you our sympathy. We knew your parents when Walter's mom was in Palm Gardens of Tampa (care facility). My Grammie was right across the hall from her, and I was at Palm Gardens every day. I visited back and forth with your folks alot, and kept a special eye on your grandma, and would call Walter if anything didn't seem quite right... I enjoyed your folks friendship; they were lovely people, with good caring hearts. I remained in touch with them via phone a few times per year, after your grandma was gone. Also, anytime judges or sheriffs were on the voting ballot at election time, I always called Walter for his input, as I knew he knew that circle well! He (they) will be greatly missed... It is up to you to carry on their legacy down here... Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this challenging time...

02/21/10--To the family of Walter C. Heinrich:
Just wanted you to know how very sorry I am to hear of dad's passing. I don't know if you remember but in th 60's we bought our first house next to you on Fairoaks. Additionally, your dad was a good friend of my dad, Ralph Chavez and my uncle Eddie Zalva who worked in the department. I styled your mother's hair for many years untill they moved to John Knox Village. Your father was a good, gental, noble man. You could see by his actions how much he loved your mother. I feel I have lost a good neighbor from the 60's and good friends. May he rest in peace.---Gloria Chavez Stone Cosio

My mother, Janet Hawkins, met Sheriff Heinrich when she was a young girl, I remember all the stories she told me about searching for missing kids. most of the stories she told me involved Sheriff Heinrich. I met Sheriff Heinrich when I was a little girl, I'll admit I was somewhat Intimidated by him, after all he was a very striking man who earned the respect that was given to him by everyone he knew. My family sends our deepest condolences and prayers to his family. God bless Sheriff Heinrich, He was one of a kind.

Your father was such great, generous, and beloved man. So many people at HCSO still talk about him. I worked in his office with Lorena when I was 15-17 as summer help. I was shocked and saddened to hear of former Sheriff Heinrich's passing. I remember how he knew my name and greeted me less than 3 days on the job. I was a recipient of his telephone pranks ensuring that I was doing my job with kindness, competence and professionalism. I was in the last academy he approved prior to his retirement. I was in awe and amazement of his intelligence, professionalism and strength to lead a county in a major population growth. I am privileged to have served under his command and he will be surely missed. My sincerest condolences to Judge Heinrich and his entire family. May you fine strength in the words and fond memories shared by friends and colleages in this your time of grief. Fondly with respect and sympathy,

I first met Sheriff Heinrich when he was a major in the HCSO, while I was a member the Sheriff's Exployer post. I later became a Detention Deputy under Sheriff Beard and served under him while he was sheriff. My thoughts and prayers go out to all his friends and family. We will miss him.

As many of my collegues have stated, Walter was an inspiration to me as well. He and Jim Cook are resposible in part for any success I have had in my professional life. Hillsborough County has lost the best of its citizens. He inspired us all to be better people. He will be sorely missed. (HCSO 1978-1995)

Judge Heinrich, "Buzzy": You were my immediate supervisor some years ago (I was the sole African American) that use to comically bug you all the time in the State Attorney's Office, Div. "B".
I am so sorry to hear of your loss, but heaven's gain. May the God of all tender mercies who comforts us in all our sorrow give your family the needed strength to carry on. God sees your tears----He is healing the brokenhearted---and is binding up those painful spots.
Former Sheriff Heinrich will be missed, but never forgotten, is deeply loved by all that he inspired. May God bless your family abundantly and may you have double portions of SHALOM [Peace]---forever rooted in God's amazing love.
