John Wood Obituary

John Knight Wood, 84 years old, of Dighton, died in Wedgemere Nursing Home, on Sunday May 13, 2018. He was the husband of Diane (Ladd) Wood. He was born in Plymouth, son of the late Roland and Phyllis (Knight) Wood. John received his BS in Health Education from East Stroudsburg Teacher College in PA and his Masters of Education from Bridgewater State University. He taught in Rutland,VT , Dighton and for 41 years was a teacher in North Attleboro, retiring in 2001. where he was also the Tennis Coach, John was an avid Patriots, Red Sox and Bruins fan. John was an avid North Attleboro football fan and very loudly led the chant The whole world said GO BIG RED. He formerly attended Winthrop Street Baptist Church where he was on the Board of Deacons and the Prudential Board. John served in the US Army from 1956 to 1962 Most of all John loved family gatherings and the company of his children and their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He and his wife, Diane, now attend the Dighton Community Church. Besides his wife John is survived by his children, Nancy Peterson and Dale of Taunton, John Wood and Lauren of Woburn, Kevin Wood and Susan of Dighton and his daughter in law Leanne, wife of his late son Jeffrey, who died in 2001. John is the grandfather of 11 and great grandfather of 2 and the brother of Ronnie Wood of Thailand and also the brother of the late Wayne Wood. Visiting hours will be held in the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave ( Rt 138 South) Taunton on Wednesday from 4-8PM. A Memorial Service will be held in the Dighton Community Church, Elm St. Dighton on Thursday at 11AM. Interment at a later date in Fox Cemetery, Berkley. My deepest condolences to Diane and family. John was a wonderfully kind gentleman who I enjoyed many a conversation with. I am truly saddened to hear of his passing. May God grant you inner strength and peace during this difficult time. May the wonderful memories that you have of him bring you solace.
