Ariosto Reyes Obituary

Ariosto Santiago "Santi" Reyes III

Port St. Lucie, FL

Ariosto Santiago "Santi" Reyes, III, 29, joined our Lord on Saturday, August 25, 2018. Born on December 9, 1988, in Chicago to Ariosto Reyes, Jr. and Maria Ruiz de Luzuriaga Reyes, Santi and his family moved shortly after his birth to Port St. Lucie, FL, where Santi grew up. He attended grade school at St. Joseph Catholic School, then attended John Carroll Catholic High School where he played soccer, swam, and starred in every drama production he could. He was currently enrolled at Florida Atlantic University finishing a degree in vocal performance.

Santi was the beloved Director of Music at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and sang at countless weddings and funerals. He was a private music instructor for voice, piano, and percussion and performed in various local bands. He won numerous awards in vocal competitions and was a Florida finalist for American Idol. Some of his best performances were in SantiAri concerts with his Dad. Santi loved comics, gaming, Star Wars, fishing, and playing beautiful music with his family. He brought music, laughter, and a good heart to all he did.

He is survived by his parents, Ari and Maria; sisters Angela Truong (Pierre), Claudia Reyes, and Beatrice Reyes; and his niece, Eliana. He also leaves his grandmothers, Carolina Reyes and Violeta Ruiz de Luzuriaga.

The family invites those who wish to join them for a visitation Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 5 - 9 pm at Yates Funeral Home in Port St. Lucie and again on Friday, August 31, 2018 from 5 - 9 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 10 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and the 10 am Sunday mass at Holy Family Catholic Church on September 2, 2018 will be for the intention of Santi.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton for the construction of their new church.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Yates Funeral Home & Crematory, Port St. Lucie Chapel. For more information and for those who wish to sign a guestbook, please visit www.YatesFuneralHome.com.

Some years ago, I shared my love of Santi's music and talent with a friend who was a cradle Catholic and hadn't attended Mass in years. He was very impressed and mentioned how much he liked Santi that I believe was the reason that he connected to his own parish. Greg, however passed before Santi but it is my hope that our outward signs of our faith did some good.

Dear Ari and Maria,
We still remember when Bonnie came home from St Joes and told us
all about her new friend, Santi. He was so nice and they had a lot of fun together. ( I think they were in Kindergarten) We had the pleasure of reconnecting with Santi at Jane Melichars wedding and he was such a delight. Jane shared a video of Santi when he performed for Jane and Blakes wedding (which we love.)

We lost our Bonnie 10 years ago on Sept 4, 2008. It has changed our lives forever but through all our sorrow, we have learned that the love between you and your child will never die and your memories and miracles are yours to hold on to. When people told us you have an angel now and your child is in a better place. My heart cried out that it was not fair and our child belongs HERE!!! With all of us who love her.

It is a long road and Time does heal us but if you need someone to walk with you and help you accept the unfathomable, please feel free to call.

Wishing you Faith, Hope and support from the love of his friends and yours.

Praying for you,
Roy and Natalie Gustafson

My wife and I moved here from Maryland and attended Holy Family ,we saw Santi was going to Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton and said we loved Santi's music so much ,why not attend church there. Not only was it a great move but we were inspired by this young man every Mass we attended. My Grand daughter later took a few lessons from Santi as being from NYC she asked if we knew of anyone here that could teach her. She loved his instruction, said no other person has ever been so encouraging and remembers one thing he told her. Be yourself and sing within your voice. Now we have lost a great young man, a teacher a man who loved music so much he gave his all so others could appreciate it as well. A loss , so young ...yet we know God has other plans for him and We know Santi is in heaven letting his students lift their voices to him. God be with him...

My husband Larry & I are so sorry for your loss. He was such a talented young man. We are from MI and spend our winters in Port St Lucie, FL. I heard him at a school play and was so proud of his music. Every weekend at Mass I looked forward to him singing and playing the piano. Really loved him singing Ave Maria and It would bring tears to my eyes - he was simply amazing.

The students, faculty and staff in FAU's Music Department offer our condolences to Santi's family. All of us who knew Santi were blessed by his smiling personality and beautiful voice. I was especially happy to see him back in classes this past week and excited for him to finally finish his degree--he was so determined to do it.

We offer our prayers and support, and wanted to share that with you what an impact Santi made to so many through his music wherever he was. We will cherish our memories of his time with us, and are so proud to have been part of his life.

Dear Reyes Family,

My heartfelt condolences to all of you. I am heartbroken at the loss of this wonderful young man and musician who was full of life and enthusiasm. Your son, brother, grandson, uncle, and student/friend to so many of us here at Florida Atlantic University is greatly missed. He was a kind soul who always had a smile to share. He was also a very respectful young man. May he RIP in the loving arms of his Father and, as the text to the choral arrangement of "An Old Irish Blessing" by Agay states, may God hold him and your pain "in the palm of His hands."

Please, let us know if there is anything we can do as Santi's FAU family in the area of Choral and Vocal Studies. Unfortunately, it does not look like I will be able to attend the services due to scheduling conflicts but, I am trying ... I have classes, lessons, meetings and an appointment in Miami that I cannot reschedule.

May God bless each and every one of you and may His love be bountiful as you navigate this terrible loss. I am sure that the memories that Santi has left and his legacy will help you in the healing process. Now Heaven has welcomes a beautiful voice to the great celestial chorus.

Blessings and prayers to all of you,

Dr. Fleitas

P.S. I know that Santi had a lot of music colleagues who will most likely memorialize him through their music. However, I would like to share that our newly appointment voice teacher, Professor Mitchell Hutchings, who had the opportunity to meet Santi upon his return to FAU, has offered his assistance if need. If you need a singer, he will be more than happy to offer his voice. Let me know but, please, do not feel obligated. I considered that you should be aware of his generous offer.
