Arlene Rossway Obituary

Arlene Adele Collins Rossway

Vero Beach, FL

Arlene Adele Collins Rossway, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2019, with her family by her side.

Arlene was born on September 8, 1928 to Floyd and Dorothy Collins, in Brooklyn, New York.

As a child raised during WWII and with Arlene's father being involved in the war effort, Arlene was afforded

remarkable travel experiences throughout the United States during her childhood. In 1952, Arlene married the love of her life, Dr. Warren H. Rossway, and they had three beautiful children together. They lived many years in Huntington Bay, New York before moving their family to Vero Beach in 1971. Arlene is survived by three children: Karen Hansen (Mikael), of Sarasota; Leslie Rossway Swan (Michael), of Vero Beach; and Bradley W. Rossway (Becky) of Vero Beach. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Arlene was predeceased by her loving husband, Warren, in 1983.

To her family, Arlene was a loving wife, a devoted Mom, and a tender-hearted Mimi; to those in her inner circle, she was an endearing friend and compatriot; and to the community, she was a philanthropic and compassionate contributor. An only child, family was always paramount in Arlene's life and her inner light shined vibrantly, inspiring her children and grandchildren.

She had a zest for life be it on the dance floor, tennis court, or golf course. A world traveler, Arlene visited all of the seven continents traveling around the world twice. She cherished those times when her children and grandchildren joined her on her travel journeys. Arlene's heart overflowed with joy when each of her grandchildren reached the age of 6 and 16, at which time she would plan a special travel excursion with each of them to share in one-on-one "Mimi time".

Arlene was adored by so many and she loved unconditionally in return. The loves of her life extended from her late husband to her children and grandchildren, to her friends (both two-legged and four-legged) and fellow members at Huntington Bay Club in New York, Riomar Bay Yacht Club, John's Island Club, Vero Beach Country Club, and at Oak Harbor Club. In her later years, Arlene was blessed with an angel, Yolanda Wilson, who became her much-loved friend and caregiver. Those who love her know that her journey has taken her home to her Lord where she will be reunited with her husband, Warren, to once again join him on the ballroom dance floor. Music, laughter, and love will be ever-present and her penchant for chocolate will be satisfied by an endless supply of Godiva chocolates.

A private burial will be held for the immediate family with a celebration of life to follow in March. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the VNA Hospice House and the Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County.
