Barbara Dame - Frazier Obituary

Barbara Dame - Frazier, BSN, LHCRM, MLT, ACD, NMBS Born in West Palm Beach on August 11, 1953, she graduated from Rosarian Academy in West Palm Beach. She then attended UCLA, where she graduated with a BSN. She remained in California for many years. Upon returning to the Palm Beach/Lake Worth area, Barbara worked at several regional hospitals as a nurse, specializing in emergency-department and newborn-care medicine. She became a licensed respiratory therapist and a licensed laboratory supervisor. Working days in a plastic-surgery office and nights at Good Samaritan Medical Center, she found time to become a licensed healthcare risk manager. Barbara started Dame Practice Management, a company specializing in risk management for physicians' offices, ambulatory-surgery centers and clinical laboratories. Her clients ranged from all over Florida to other states, including Texas, Oregon, Massachusetts, Idaho and Michigan. Dame Practice Management recently expanded to include freestanding invasive radiology facilities under the new HCCL federal legislation. Barbara maintained a busy national lecture circuit that included presentations before the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Dermatology Association, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and other national and state medical societies. Dame Practice Management publishes a quarterly newsletter, "Inside Healthcare," which can be accessed through her Web site (www.dameprac.com). This resource is free to all medical professionals. Barbara was an unabashed adventurer and thrill seeker. She loved downhill skiing, scuba diving, skydiving and sailing. She was a "wingwalker" with the L.A. Skybirds and recently received her captain's license for sailing. She was a strong Christian who enjoyed Sunday-night Bible studies with her children by telephone and attended Christ Fellowship in West Palm Beach. Barbara is survived by her husband, William H. Frazier, M.D., of North Hutchinson Island; sons Robert H. Frazier, Wilson F. Frazier and Lucas T. Frazier, all of Louisville, Ky.; mother, Inez Morse, originally of Lake Worth, Fla., and now in Crossville, Tenn.; brother, Irvin Morse, of Crossville, Tenn.; and four grandchildren: Shannon, Benjamin, Aileen and Jayden Frazier. Barbara loved all people, defended the defenseless, and asked that people of like mind do the same. Please send memorial contributions to the AIDS Research and Treatment Center of the Treasure Coast, 2407 Okeechobee Road, Fort Pierce, FL 34950.
