Christy Colon Obituary
Port St. Lucie, FL
Christy Youngs Colon, beloved wife, mother, daughter. Christy Youngs Colon of Port St. Lucie, Fla. passed away surrounded by family and friends on October 19, 2015 after a six-year battle with breast cancer.
Born July 7, 1976 in Utica, NY, she grew up in Arcade, where she attended and graduated from Pioneer Central School in 1994. While in high school, Christy excelled at track, gymnastics, soccer and bowling. She then attended St. John Fisher and Monroe Community Colleges in Rochester, NY, where she earned her Masters' degree in Spanish Education.
After getting married and having two children, she and her family moved to Port St Lucie, Fla. where she became a teacher, track coach, and later a guidance counselor at Jensen Beach High School.
She is survived by her husband, Yassir; children, Yassir A., and Sofia; father Stephen and stepmother Michelle Youngs of Arcade; mother Rita and stepfather David Simon of Palm Bay; her brother 1st Sergeant Steven and sister-in-law Amanda Youngs of Norfolk, Va.; mother and father in-law; many aunts, uncles, brother and sister in-laws; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held for Christy on October 23, 2015 at 6 p.m. at Morningside Church in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made at any Wells Fargo under the Christy Youngs Colon Memorial Fund, with proceeds to benefit the children's education.

My name is Angela Rogers and I met Christy at the Hubbard House. My daughter was rushed to Orlando Regional for an AVM aneurysm. She is fine. I am fighting stage 4 colon cancer and Christy left me the most inspiring lovely note under our door at the Hubbard House. May she rest in peace and I send my hugs and prayers to the family.

Christy is a very special person and I am so honored to have her as a friend. She is one of the most kind-hearted, giving, caring, strongest people I know - just a beautiful person inside and out. Just under 6 years ago Christy introduced herself & befriended me as we waited in the oncologists office. We were both sporting bald heads and bonded over so many similarities in our "cancer" story. Over the years we kept in touch via text or run ins & kids had same involvements. I saw her last at open house some weeks ago and she wasnt able to communicate much but, she smiled at me & held my hands. I like her am 39, and a 6 year BC survivor. I hope I can take her strength and fight and make her proud. I dont know why outcomes are so different for all of us cancer patients but, I know she always was so happy to hear how well I was doing. She was such a beautiful girl & was always so positive. I pray for her family & most especially her children. I want them to know all she wanted, all she cared about was her babies. As a mother with the same fight, I can tell them thats all we care about is our family, our kids. I hope I can carry her fight with me & be a better mother, friend, & human in her honor.
