Doug James Obituary

DOUG JAMES Doug James, known to many as "Big Guy", was born June 30, 1936 and died peacefully in his Vero Beach home on September 4, 2007. He came to the Treasure Coast from Chattanooga in 1980. He had retired from his profession as an art dealer and was a familiar figure on North Beach in Ft. Pierce, where he walked daily for many years. He was truly generous with his smile and his time. He touched many lives with his wisdom and gentle humor. He loved and was loved by many, and was a friend to all he met. Those who had the privilege of spending time with Doug will never forget him. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Collison of Vero Beach, his former wife Jackie James of Roseland, Florida; two brothers, Dee James of Chattanooga and Donald James of Annandale, Virginia; two daughters, Suzi James of Ft. Pierce and Merle Kincaid of Richmond Virginia; his grandson Benjamin Baumker of Ft. Pierce and his grand daughter Ellie Braun of Richmond, Virginia. For those who wish to honor his life, his family asks that contributions be made in his name to the Self-Realization Fellowship, 3880 San Rafael Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90065 or to the Foundation for Inner Peace, PO Box 598, Mille Valley, CA 94942. An informal gathering will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 6:00 PM at 2415 Atlantic Beach Boulevard on North Beach. Beach attire preferred. Arrangements are under the direction of Haisley Funeral & Cremation Service. A guest book may be signed at www.haisleyfuneralhome.com

I want to express my condolences for the loss of a great man. I've had the pleasure of meeting Doug through my yard service business. What I remember most about Doug was that he always had a smile on his face and his upbeat attitude towards life never failed to get my attention when we spoke. I know he loved his walks to the beach and talking with his neighbors and especially having the title of Mayor of North Beach. I thought about Doug through out the years, I know that he loved his family very much and will be missed greatly. God Bless.

Suzi,Stephanie, Merle, and Jackie:
I knew nothing of Doug's illness,
and am so sorry for your loss. He meant a lot to me and we had some great times together starting at the University of Chatt. in 1954. We will all miss him. Ed and Kay
