My deepest condolences to Ted's family and especially to Mike, Pat, and Ed.
I knew Ted since I was born and we were all chums from the beginning. Joe and Ted, Steve and Mike, me (David) and Pat. We shared an amazing childhood. The club pool, life on the river, neighborhood games and parties. We lived at each other's houses. I knew their phone number before my own. The countless memories that we all share forged our futures and our lives to be.
Even though it has been decades since our last encounter in Dallas, at On the Border when I was a freshman rushing fraternities, I can say his indelible smile and friendly voice are imprinted in my mind. His presence will be sorely lost, but I will continue to share the priceless memories as I always do. Those wonderful life stories of us six as kids made a lifetime of joy that made childhood the miracle it is supposed to be to every kid.
God bless Missy and Family.

I went to law school with Ted and became very close friends with him. He always had such a fun, happy, positive disposition about him that it made it great to be around him at all times. I never saw him in a bad mood and considered it an honor to be in his close circle of friends in school. Even though his catch-phrase through difficult times in school was "strive for mediocrisy" he always excelled in everything he did. We loved talking about college football and enjoyed many fun times together. He always worked like he lived life - to the fullest. Ted, you were a good man and there are not many like you today. With much love, George Giosmas.

I had the pleasure of knowing and meeting Mr. Mortell while working as a paralegal for an opposing firm. He took adversarial out of adversary. He was a force to be reckoned with in the court room and he embodied professionalism. I am truly sorry for the loss of such a bright light. My sympathy is extended to all of those who knew and loved him.

I knew Ted Mortell professionally for many years. He was always a gentleman and a delight to work with. He was an excellent attorney and an extremely fast learner. I was always happy to hear from him and enjoyed our interactions very much. My heartfelt condolences to Ted's family and all of his friends, partners, and co-workers. There are no appropriate words.

Ted was one of the first ones to make me feel welcome when I joined Peterson & Bernard in 1992. During the time we worked together he was both mentor and friend. His positive outlook was infectious, and I have great memories of our times as young associates at P&B One time, on a whim, he invited me along for a bachelor party where I knew none of the attendees but Ted. During that trip, when I got into a bit of (harmless) trouble, it was Ted who took charge and straightened the whole matter out. That was Ted.
Truly a great attorney and, more importantly, a great person.
God bless the Mortell family during this time.

I had the true privilege of litigating "against" Ted on multiple cases throughout the years. Although we may have been on opposite sides of the table, he was by far one of the most professional and ethical lawyers I have ever worked with. Even though I did not know Ted outside of our professional relationship, I certainly knew he was an honest, hard working and great man. I am so very sorry to his family and friends as I cannot imagine the loss you are feeling. I know he will be greatly missed in the legal community.

The entire Kramer family has known and loved Ted since 1975 when we moved to Kankakee. I was the luckiest kid because he was in my grade and we shared tons of wonderful memories. I'm thankful for our shared faith and knowing that God has a plan. I pray for his devoted wife and talented sons as they struggle to make sense of this tragedy. It is my hope that Ted's beautiful impact on this world will continue to ripple on through his three boys. Sending love, sympathy and prayers to the entire Mortell family!

I knew Ted for over 30 years. We went to Invited Attorneys together several times during my second tour at Peterson Bernard. We shared an interest in college football. Ted was an excellent attorney and a really good guy. I know how much his family meant to him, my heart goes out to them now.
