George Thomas Angelos

GEORGE THOMAS ANGELOS George Thomas Angelos, 81, of Fort Pierce, died Wednesday, January 17, 2007, in Fort Pierce. Mr. Angelos was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on October 28, 1925, son of Thomas Christopher Angelos and Angela Kolioutas Angelos. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific with the United States Marine Corps. He saw combat in Guadalcanal, Boganville, and Vella LaVella. He was awarded two Purple Hearts. George was a Golden Gloves Champion, having fought at Madison Square Gardens. He was a retired restaurateur, and co- invented the first chef's paper hat. Survivors include 8 children, Thomas George Angelos of Dania, Dr. William George Angelos, Peter George Angelos, Nicholas George Angelos, all of Fort Pierce, Georgette A. Pettijohn of Tallahassee, Maryann Angelos of Fort Pierce, Joanna A. Erickson of Tallahassee, and Sophia A. Tidwell of Acworth, Georgia; 17 grandchildren, Samantha, Thomas, Julia, George, Giles, Jennifer, Zachariah, Layla, Natalie, Christopher, Sophia, Nicola, Georgette, Alexandria, James, Victoria, and Alexa; 3 great-grand children, Madeleine, Jack and Leia; 2 brothers, Christopher Angelos and Leon Angelos. Mr. Angelos is preceded in death by a brother, Angie Angelos. Friends may call from 6 pm until 8 pm on Sunday, January 21st, at Yates Funeral Home, Fort Pierce. A Trisagion will be in the funeral home chapel at 7:30 pm. A funeral service will be at 10 am Monday at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Alexander Papagikos officiating. A graveside service will be Wednesday, January 24th, in Fernwood Cemetery, Fernwood, Pennsylvania. Officiating will be Deacon Perry Angelos, nephew. Vraim Funeral Home, Upper Darby, will be in charge of Pennsylvania arrangements.
