Jake Thompson Obituary

JAKE C. THOMPSON Jake (John) C. Thompson passed away April 4th, 2006, from complications of lung disease and dementia. He died at home with his wife at his side. He came to Port St. Lucie from Guam, to retire from 25 years of Naval service with NSGA. He retired as a Senior Chief. Jake was born in Syracuse, NY, where he grew up and joined the Navy right out of High School. The Navy was his family until he met his wife, Jo, and was happily married for over 50 years. Jake loved all sports, but golf became his primary goal after retiring to Florida in 1978. He opened his own real estate office (Pelican Realty). Retired from it in 1993. He then worked and played at Indian Hills Golf Club for many years, also providing his time there on a volunteer basis. For many years he was a regular early morning "habitue" at the Donut Circus, downtown Fort Pierce. (Thanks Robbie for being his friend). He was a kind and gentle soul, was totally dedicated to his Navy life and family. He is survived by his wife, Jo; 3 daughters, Toni Olson of Boise, ID, Sandra Aragon of unknown location, and Michelle Messier also of unknown location; a grandson, A.J. Messier, Madisonville, TN and 3 other grandsons of unknown location. I will sorely miss my lifetime friend and companion. A military service is planned. Aycock Funeral Home, 1504 SE Floresta Drive, will provide arrangements. Memorial Funeral service is scheduled on April 11, 2006

Jake was one great friend and mentor to me. I was stationed with him at Ft Meade and again on Guam. I haven’t seen or hear from him in 30 years, but strangely, I was just thinking about him a few days before I received news of his passing. My most sincere condolences. “Fair winds and following seas.”

Jake was a dear friend of my husband Randy. They played golf and group card games until we moved to Orlando in 1998. Randy passed away last September 23, 2005. My condolences.
