John Scarola Obituary

JOHN A. SCAROLA John A. Scarola was taken home by God at age 81 on June 22, 2006. His extraordinary life is celebrated by Grace, his wife of 60 years, his 6 children, 19 grandchildren, and 12 greatgrandchildren. John and Grace's children and their spouses are Anita and Jack Scarola of Jupiter, Fl; Suzanne and Thomas Scarola of Tarrytown, NY; Susan Scarola and Thomas Hudson of Athens, NY; Mary Kay and Kenneth Scarola of Murrysville, Penn.; Carol and James Scarola of Morrisville, NC; and Ellen and Thomas Ehrlich of Colleyville, Tx. John and Grace began their lifetime bond when they were 13 and 12 years old respectively. Following receipt of John's Naval officer's commission, Grace and John married in their hometown of Brooklyn, New York. Through the Naval ROTC program, John attended Princeton and Harvard and then received his Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Engineering degrees from Yale University. John began his professional career as a draftsman with EBASCO Services, Inc. and rose through the corporate ranks to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer, supervising major civil engineering projects all around the world. Responsibility for the construction of the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant in Fort Pierce brought John and Grace to South Florida in 1967, and Fort Pierce has been their primary residence since John's retirement from EBASCO in 1989. While John's professional accomplishments brought him international accolades, the life work in which he took greatest pride was always his family to whom he devoted himself selflessly and with great generosity. His infectious love of life, family, God, and travel will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Additional survivors include John's older sister, Rose, of Brooklyn, NY and his younger brother, Innocent John, of Fort Pierce. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Fort Pierce at 10:00am, Saturday, June 24, 2006. Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park on Countyline Road in Tequesta. The family will then receive friends at a reception at Admiral's Cove in Jupiter. Yates Funeral Home, Fort Pierce is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express their sympathy are asked to consider contributions in John's memory to The Lord's Place, P.O. Box 3265, West Palm Beach, FL 33402.
