Leo Brooks Obituary

Leo Charles Brooks died March 15, 2012, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Ala. He was born in Manchester, N.H., raised in Rutland, Mass., and lived in Dothan. He lived in Port St. Lucie from 1981 to 2007. His career was mostly spent in personnel management with Veterans Affairs. He took an early retirement from the VA Central Office, Washington, D.C. He served in the Army and had an honorable discharge. He was jointly responsible in the formation of the Deaf Service Center of the Treasure Coast Inc. For many years he attended the North Stuart Baptist Church in Stuart. In Dothan, he was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church. He joined the Sandpiper Men's Golf Association and served all offices on the board of directors. He continued as tournament chairman of the SBMGA and ultimately became known as "Mr. Tournament Chairman." Survivors include his wife, Mary; and sister, Marilyn McGann of Bossier City, La. Memorial contributions may be made to the Port St. Lucie Volunteer Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 8026, Port St. Lucie, FL 34985; American Diabetes Association; or the building fund at Covenant United Methodist Church, 3610 W. Main St., Dothan, AL 36305. Services: Burial will be in the Rutland cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are by Ward Wilson Memory Hill Funeral Home Cemetery and Crematory, Dothan, and Miles Funeral Home, Holden, Mass.
