Ralph Hebert Obituary

RALPH HEBERT Surrounded by his family, Ralph Hebert passed away Sunday, October 31, 2010. Ralph, known as RH to many, was born June 5th 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. In addition to Chicago, he lived throughout Florida including North Key Largo and Miami Beach before settling in Vero Beach 25 years ago. He proudly served his country in the Army during 1945- 1947 while stationed in Germany. After returning home from his deployment, he attended General Motors Institute and graduated with a BS in automotive marketing and finance. Ralph's early business dealings in Florida began in the 1950's when he acquired the Cadillac Hotel on Miami Beach. He was a true visionary leader in the automobile industry as evidenced when he relocated the Oldsmobile GMC franchise to Homestead Florida in 1962. He expanded the dealership to include seven brands. Ralph served as president of the South Florida Automobile Dealers Association during the 1970's and founded the South Florida Auto Show. Additionally, he served on numerous bank boards. He was also instrumental as a founder and rescued the Coconut Grove Playhouse. Ralph was an avid sports and fishing enthusiast and shared many happy times in the Florida Keys with his family and friends. He was everyone's friend and never missed an opportunity to help a friend in need. He was his children's confidante and shared expert advice from his life experiences that made them the strong men and women they are today. The family counted at least nine lives Ralph lived – one of the most loving and interesting men to have known. He enjoyed memberships at many clubs including Midlothian Country Club, Union League, Ocean Reef Club, Mission Ranch Club and the Moorings Club. He enjoyed cruising the world and had homes in Carmel, CA and Scottsdale, AZ. He is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Bernice and their combined 9 children; Kathryn Skaletsky, James Hebert, Frank Hebert (Susan), Jeffry Hebert ( Rhonda), Elizabeth Novak (Michael).Rick Horan (Michelle), Paul Hebert (Dee), Jim Horan (Colleen), Michael Horan and Jean Hebert, his ex- wife and life-long friend, 18 grand children and two great grandchildren. Tomorrow will be 1 month since Ralphs passing, and my heart is breaking and aching to kiss him goodnight, hear his voice one more time and see his smiling face. The memories of deep love, need and respect that we had between us will keep me warm at night. He's sending dimes from heaven to let me know he's alright and in Gods care now until I get there to be in his loving arms again. He was some MAN, one of a kind. Bernice

I would like to share only good times for Ralph and his family. I have so many fond memeories of all of us growing up and living the life only most could hope for. Ralph, you and Dick lived life to the fullest and raised all of us to respect and love each other. You gave us in life what most families dream of having and I thank you both for being our parents and you both for being friends. Now may you rest in peace.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the entire Hebert family. While Paul and Dee have been friends of mine and my family for well over 20 years, I had an opportunity to meet Liz last month in North Carolina. Paul and I have enjoyed many stories over the years about our families and in particular our fathers. While I never had the privilege of meeting Ralph Hebert, I'm confidant he leaves a legacy larger than life and will be missed greatly.
You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

All my families condolences go out to Paul and his (I never knew quite how) large family. Paul and Dee are good friends of mine and I've met most of Ralphs immediate family years ago. We had many similarities in our families and Paul and I spoke often of both our Fathers, and their influences in our lives.
Special thoughts and prayers go to Jean, who was friends with my Mother for a while and who I enjoyed spending time and cocktails with in Homestead, Buffalo and Atlanta.
Love from Paul, Kim and Shelbi Rosebrock
