Richard Fowler Obituary

In Loving Memory of RICHARD AND ALVA FOWLER Alva and Dick are together in heaven after 6 weeks apart. It was their longest separation since Dick's Navy duty in WWII. Dick died on June 1, 2006 after a brief illness. Alva joined him on July 18, 2006 after a much longer illness during which Dick took patient, unselfish care of her. Before that, they took loving care of each other. Born on March 8, 1924 in Newark, NJ, Alva R. Reed was one of 8 children. Richard Fowler, Jr. was born July 6, 1924 in Greenport, NY. He was an only child. They were married on April 12, 1947 and started a wonderful life together. Dick spent 35 years as a lineman at the Long Island Lighting Co. while Alva was a magnificent housekeeper and mother. She loved watching all types of ball games and playing poker with the neighborhood ladies. Dick was an avid bowler and golfer. Together they loved camping and traveling the countryside in their various, sometime unorthodox, recreational vehicles. After retirement in 1986 they visited nearly every park in our great nation but always found time to "camp" in the children's driveways for a few weeks each year. Alva's sister, Mary Harrison, survives them as do 3 children, Richard, Robert, and Patricia. They loved their 8 grandchildren; Kelly, Richard, and Dennis; Eric, Chris and Michelle; and Peter and Amanda, three great-grandchildren, Brady, Erin, and Dennis, will also miss them as will many nieces and nephews. Gail Bell, their friend and Goddaughter, as well as many other friends and neighbors also have fond memories of Alva and Dick. "Boober" and his wife "Pudge" as they affectionately called[] each other will have their cremains scattered in the Atlantic Ocean off eastern, Long Island. They will always be near Hither Hills State Park where they loved to camp, fish and walk the beach. It was a favorite spot during their stay on earth.
