RICHARD G. POST Richard G. Post, 85, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on November 10, 2013. He was born in N.J., a direct descendent of Capt. John Post who saved Gen. George Washington's army from the British at the Morristown encampment. He was the son of Albert and Ellen (Brough) Post who held the world's record in the 220 yd.dash in1926 and 1927 and had to give up her Olympic invitation in 1928 because of the imminent birth of her dear son, Richard. He attended Rutgers Univ. and graduated from Upsala College. He earned a graduate degree from the Rutgers School of Banking and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Endicott College, in Bev
erly, MA. In his early career he worked for the Federal Leather Co. in Purchasing and Personnel, serving as the youngest Pres. of the N.J. Industrial Editor's Assoc. He also served as treasurer of the American Assoc. of Industrial Editor's. He later became involved in the company's internal operations and earned a US Patent for a pallet device in multistacking warehousing and received industry recognition for automated product handling in shipments to U.S. automobile assembly plants. During his employment with Textron Inc., Federal Division, he became the Divisions Nat'l Sales V.P. Later when the division was owned by Airco, he was the Nat'l Marketing V.P. for the Fabrics and Injection Molding Divisions. He moved on to be V.P., Director and Gen'l Mgr. of Panelgraphic Corp., a public company servicing the scientific instrument industry. He negotiated a joint venture agreement with Thorn Electric in the UK, serving as a director on the Thorn/Panelgraphic Board. During this period he served the boards of several small cap companies. His corporate experience in organization and financing led to an offer by N.J. Bank to join them as Sr. V.P. managing corporate development and retail marketing. The bank later merged with Midlantic Bank, now part of PNC. His interest in bank marketing to the medical fields offered an opportunity to form his own company, American Group, becoming heavily involved in management of retirement assets and trust funds. He served many civic and charitable organizations. He was a Director of N.J. Banker's Assoc., Board member of two United Way organizations as well as Chair of one of the largest in the state. He presided over a County branch of the American Cancer Society and served on the N.J. State American Cancer Board. He was the youngest Pres. of the N.J. chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and was on the boards of William Paterson Univ.'s Graduate School and the N.J. Leukemia Society. In Vero Beach he was an officer of the 100 Club, on the board of the American Cancer Society, Pres. of the FL Chapter of the Holland Society of N.Y. and a trustee of Endicott College. He was honored by many organizations. Some were the Treasure Coast and Cultural Council "Philanthropist of the Yr" and the "Good Samaritan" of the Yr. He was a member of the De Villiers Society of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, a multiple Excalibur member of the American Cancer Society. He considered his greatest achievements to be the various scholarship funds he established at Endicott College, Colgate Univ., Roanoke College, Holland Society of N.Y., St. Lucie Comm. Children's Theater, Community Church of VB and several others. He often said his most meaningful contribution was building the Post Chapel and Meditation Garden at Indian River Medical Center. He served as a Medical Service Corp Capt. in the U.S. 102nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Nat'l Guard with 13 years of service. Most of his life he owned small farms and was a registered Bee Keeper. On weekends he loved nothing more than being on his tractor and plowing a field. His incredible passion for golf was evident in his memberships. In N.J. he was a member of the Essex Fells Country Club for over 30 yrs. serving all offices including President and the Fellsbrook Tennis Club. In FL, he was a former member of the Reserve CC, Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club and a current member of Vero Beach CC, Grand Harbor Golf & Beach Club, Vero Beach Yacht Club and Quail Valley Golf & River Club. He is survived by his devoted wife, Helen, daughter Elizabeth Cundari (Les Gwyn-Williams) of Verona, NJ, daughter Susan (Jeff) Schlachtenhaufen of Lake Forest, IL and 8 loving grandchildren: Robert Jr. and John Post, Craig and Thomas Cundari, and Helen, John, Will and Lucy Schlachtenhaufen. He was predeceased by his dear sons John and Robert. He was devoted to his family, loved being with friends, always had a smile and never met a stranger. His wishes were to thank everyone who made his life so joyful. He was also grateful to those who brought him comfort during his last days, especially his dear friend and Doctor, Michaela Scott. A memorial service will be held at Community Church in Vero Beach on December 7, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Post Chapel Endowment Fund at IRMC, 1000 36th Street Vero Beach, Florida 32060.
