Richard Charles Yakel

Richard Charles Yakel, 80, died Jan. 16, 2011. He was born in Jacksonville, Ill., and lived in Southern Pines, N.C., coming from Vero Beach. He graduated from the University of Illinois. He worked for the 3M Co. in St. Paul, Minn. He was a lieutenant in the Army. He served on the boards of the Pinehurst Fair Barn and the College of Visual Arts, St. Paul (formerly the School of Associated Arts). Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann; daughters, Cynthia Ann Paul and Mary Lynn Yakel Sauer, both of Minneapolis; sister, Ruth Mary Yakel of Arlington Heights, Ill.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Yakel; and daughter, Leslie Payden Yakel. Memorial donations may be made to Penick Village Foundation, P.O. Box 2001, Southern Pines, NC 28387. Services: A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 24 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Southern Pines, N.C., with the Rev. Meaghan Kelly officiating. Arrangements are by Boles Funeral Home of Southern Pines.
