The family of the late Deacon Henry A. Swilley and the late Minister Thelma Bowers Swilley express our deepest sympathy to the Hendley family. Henry and Thelma were servants under Rev. Hendley from the time they relocated to the Palm Beaches until they were called home to be with the Lord. The families shared their joys and sorrows, their travels, their jokes but mostly their commitment to the Lord.
Rev Hendley has been a faithful servant. He has kept the faith and finished his course. It is now time for the Lord to say, " Well done, thou good and faithful servant!"
Our condolences,
Tcherina Swilley Duncombe and Brandon

To Mother Hendley and the entire Hendley Family: Please know that I was deeply saddened to hear of Elder Hendley's passing; however, my heart felt warmth when I thought of the "giant" of a man that he was, and all the beauty he brought to us members of the Florida State Primitive Bapt Church School Congress. His charming smile will always be remembered as we too mourn him.

Elder Hendley was my pastor since I was a small child, when the church was located on Old Dixie Highway. I had the pleasure of attending his Home Going Celebration. The entire service was organized and in order, but beyond that every word that was spoken of Elder Hendley was "TRUE".
He will be forever Love

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

In Memory of Our Man of Excellence, Elder Robert J. Hendley, Jr.
The members of the West Palm Beach Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. mourn the loss of Elder R. J. Hendley,Jr., a man of God and humanitarian of the community. He has not only opened the doors of his church to us but more importantly his heart has always been opened, without question, to anything we as Deltas asked of him. Therefore, it is only fitting that we pay final tribute to this pillar in our community, a hero among our children, and a man who loved and admired Deltas. Rev. Hendley has been a blessing to many people....Deltas included, and we will do all that we can to keep alive his legacy of love and care for the children in our community.

You're in my thoughts and prayers. May happy memories carry you through this sorrowful time. When I think of Elder Hendley, he seemed to always be in a happy and jovial mood; as well as serious and thought provoking at the appropriate time. These characteristics, along with his powerful sermons, held him in high esteem by many.

To the Hendley Family, your loss is our loss. We were a part of the mighty 38 that Rev. came to many years ago and we will miss him very much. However, we share with you in knowing that as it is said in one of Rev. Hendley's favorite songs, Jesus will welcome him home. We can be assured that Rev. Hendley is home and resting in the arms of our Heavenly Father.
We send our prayers, and love to you all.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
