Sally Byrnes Houser, 73, returned to her heavenly home on July 7, 2015. Her strong faith in our Lord Jesus Christ became an inspiration to all whose lives she touched.

She served God and her community as a social worker and chaplain with the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) in Vero Beach, Florida.

Sally is blessed with two sons (John and Michael Byrnes) and four grandchildren (Sara Cate Byrnes is due in December).

Sally's faith is the cornerstone of every part of her life and everyone felt the

love of God in her presence. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate that she is at peace with God. She was a past president of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites, a member of the Association of Christian Therapists, the spiritual director of the Center for Spiritual Care, the spiritual director of the Centering Prayer group and a member of the Prayerful Knitters.

As the years pass by, snippets of wisdom that Sally shared come to mind. I wish she were still here on earth to continue to learn from. We will be reunited one day with our Carmelite family in heaven.

I was deeply saddened to learn just one hour ago of Sally's passing. Sally and I were close friends way back in 1959 and 1960 when we were finishing our high school years. We managed to make contact more recently which brought back a flood of memories of the magical moments we spent together. She was a very special person.

My condolences to her sister Betsy and her brother Ricky as well as to her sons John and Michael who were the most important people in her life. Thanks as well to her husband Ron who was there to care for her in her time of need over the past year and a half.

I knew Sally while working for the VNA. She was such a sweet woman and it was a pleasure knowing her. It can be so hard to face the first year without your loved one, but the love of family and friends can carry you through.
