Stephen Stradley Obituary

Stephen Michael Stradley

Vero Beach, FL

Stephen Michael Stradley, 28, a lifelong resident of Vero Beach left us unexpectedly Sunday evening, March 6, 2016 as the result of an automobile accident.

Stephen was born in Sebastian, Florida to Scott and Larette Stradley. He always had a charming smile and concerns for his family, friends and community.

Stephen was a member of the Home School Community. His high school studies centered on Aviation and he earned his pilots license as well as his high school diploma in 2006. He went on to study at Indian River State College. He was involved in Dog, Rabbit and Steer 4H Clubs. He was a member of Boy Scout Troops 567 and 503, and earned the rank of Eagle Scout for blazing a hiking path along Historic Jungle Trail. He was a member of the Vero Beach Karate Association and earned his Black Belt. He was involved with state wide Civil War Re-enactments portraying both Northern and Southern soldiers. He also carried a love for his Scotch-Irish history and was very proud of his red beard. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hiking, kayaking, hunting, fishing, scuba diving, paint ball and competitive shooting. He enlisted in the National Guard in 2010 and was a top marksman and shooting instructor for his platoon during basic training. His friends and family will also never forget his love of The Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. Stephen was a true afficionado of all things Sci-Fi. He passed for Obi Wan Kanobi at the last Comic-Con in Tampa. Stephen had recently begun a career in banking and was proud of his second job at Big Apple Pizza where he had many friends and was able to fund his extracurricular activities.

He is survived by his mother Larette Stradley, sister Juliana Stradley, father Scott Stradley and stepmother Toba Stradley, all of Vero Beach, maternal grandmother Dori Lyons of Naples, paternal grandmother Shirlee Stradley of Port St. Lucie, uncles, aunts, cousins and his beloved dog Kaylee.

He was preceded in death by his three grandfathers Otto Lee Stradley, Lawrence Haines Strickland and Edwin James Lyons all of whom he loved deeply.

The family is asking that Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scout Camp Oklawaha in Sebastian, Florida. Stephen and his family spent many wonderful times there: Gulf Stream Council, 8335 North Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410 Attn: Stephen Stradley Oklawaha Memorial Fund.

The funeral will be held at Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach, Sunday, March 20th with reception at 3 pm and service at 4pm. A guest book is available at www.strunkfuneralhome.com.

Not sure what to say?

So very sorry for the loss of this young man. He was a good spirit who cared very much for his grandmother, Shirlee, our neighbor. Stephen adored animals and was a fellow dog-whisperer helping my husband capture stray dogs in our neighborhood and returning them to their owner. He will be missed.

Our heart broke hearing the news of Stephen's passing. Too soon, too sudden! He was a wonderful and spirited young man.

Gather strength from above for God is faithful. Grasp onto all those wonderful memories and never let them go. The pain will remain but its sharpness will pass in time.

Know many of your friends are praying for the family.

Stephen sounded like such a nice young man with much to offer his community. Although I did not know him, I am impacted by the work he has done with the Boy Scouts and the community. May he rest in peace.

Dear Scott and Larette,

May the Spirit of the Lord wrap you in his embrace. We were never told not to grieve, but when we grieve, we grieve with hope. I will always remember Stephen's smile and his love of aviation. It is such a short short while, and then we too will stand with Stephen in the Lord's presence.

Grace and Peace
Charles & Gloria de Andrade

The battle is almost over,
The race is almost won,
I'm laying down this body,
and I am waling up with the Son.

So if you must cry for me, my child,
Remember I left you for such a short short while.
And where I've gone, you must come too. And we will walk in paradise, me and you.

My fear has left me,
My uncertainty is gone to,
For as I close the eyes,
His Glory is shining through

So if you must cry for me, my child,
Remember I've left you for such a short short while
And where I've gone, you must come to,
And we will walk in paradise, me and you

The battle is over,
The race it has been won
My robes are white now,
And I am standing with the Son.

So if you must cry for me, my child
Remember I left you, for such a short short while.
And where I've gone, your must come too,
And we will walk in Paradise,
Me and You

I am very distraught by Stephen's death. We worked together at Brooks Brothers and he was always expressing ideas about what he wanted to do with his future. I hope he liked me. He was anxious to make something of himself but unsure how to do it here in Vero. He had great red hair. My sadness extends to his father and mother. He was a good boy. I am so so sorry about his death. Once again, he was a good boy.
