Theodore Conklin Obituary

THEODORE H. CONKLIN Theodore H. Conklin, Major USAF(RET), 86 passed away in the Treasure Coast Hospice, Stuart Florida on April 16, 2009. A native of Huntington, Long Island, New York, Ted served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and continued his military career into the United States Air Force. Ted retired after 22 years of active duty from the Strategic Air Command, 1st Missile Division, Vandenberg AFB, CA. Moving back to his home town he pursued a second career with the Grumman Aerospace Corporation on Long Island, New York. Ted relocated to Stuart, Florida with Grumman, in 1969. Retiring from his second career in 1984, Ted remained a resident of Stuart. After two distinguished careers, Ted enjoyed his retirement, for the most part because it gave him time to pursue his various interests and put his talents and knowledge toward benefiting his community. Ted was a member of the Old First Church of Huntington, NY and the Acacia 163 Masonic Lodge. He was a charter member of the St. Lucie Model Boat Club, Joined the Roadtrek International R/V Club and the Grumman Retirees Club. He was a active participant in the North River Shores neighbor watch program and volunteered his time to Meals on Wheels. Leisure time was spent golfing with friends and family, traveling with the R/V Club, building and sailing the model boats with the St. Lucie Model Boat Club and having his family visit. Ted was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Cheryl Ann Hubbard. Ted leaves his wife, Jane, to whom he was married for 63 years; two sons, Theodore A. Conklin, his wife Jean of Fairfield, CA and John C. Conklin, his wife Dheadra, of Apex, NC. Six grandchildren; Kelly & Ryan Hubbard, Timothy & Charles Conklin, Jarrett & Jacob Conklin and three great-grandchildren Vanessa, Conner and Stella Conklin plus many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was a wise and kind man, who was devoted to his family and embraced life with optimism and humor. This decorated member of the Greatest Generation is greatly missed and will be remembered through his family and friends. A Family service will he held Friday 24 April, 2009, followed by cremation. The internment will take place at later date in the Huntington, NY family plot. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to; Treasure Coast Hospice,1201 SE Indian St., Stuart, FL 34994
